Dr Jeff is correct but my memory is 300 local tickets. I'll check my notes. Former Sugarbush VP, David Dillon was hired as President of the resort. I guess it was a great job until the hammer came down.

I'm thinking but not sure that they want to be open, abiet very limited, so when the economy turns around in a couple of years it would prevent their Act 250 permit from expiring when they are ready to resume building the developement. If it did expire that's a couple more years they would have to wait to go thru the permit process, again.

You know, Maple Valley might still be for sale. Some guy posted here a couple of years that he bought the place but it seemed pretty shaky. Original price from 5 years ago was 2m, you might get it for alot less now.

From this article it's 250 locals. I did come across an article from 2006 and their mantra before the town forced them to allow a limited amount of locals "Exclusivity is the key to our success"

I think anyone paying more than just the value of a condo down the road from Mount Snow for any of this is taking a huge gamble that it will be built and operated according to plan.

From what I've read, heard, and seen the 4 townhomes they've completed at Haystack that are on the market for 500K or so, ARE similarly priced to comparable new construction properties in the greater Mount Snow area

I agree. It would needs some serious work to get running though. I'm not a lift mechanic, but based on how it looks, they'd probably needs more than a bit of grease. You never know though... The lights are still on there in the parking lots at night.

From what I understand the lifts would need to be replaced. They've been sitting exposed to the elements for too long now. Someone would have had to have run them and performed PM from time to time over the years for there to be much hope of them still being serviceable. IMHO.

Perhaps the lifts have been serviced while the area has been dormant? Then again, I know they planned on either a gondola or chondola for the summit so perhaps they let that lift sit. It would seem to fit into the overall pattern of poorly laid out plans that assets would rot away.

I think they are talking about Maple Valley. All of the lifts at Haystack should still be servicable, outside of the Oh No double which was largely abandoned in the last few years anyway due to lack of traffic. Long live lattice towers!

I think the tough nut to crack at MV would be snowmaking. Getting the water from the West River across Rt 30 to a pond would be very dificult and expensive. The West River is very wide there but not very deep. The flow is controlled by the Townshend Dam, just upriver. It was my home mountain, only 20 miles away during college. If they could do the snowmaking and have night skiing I think it could work. They would be after a diferent market than Stratton or Mt Snow, similar to Shawnee Pk in Maine.

The Oh No double was inspected under mount snow. I was told that it was actually in pretty good shape.

That's interesting. Where are the chairs? They removed them for the last couple years - and they allowed the trees to grow in around the lift. Given the lack of skiers I can understand why it wouldn't be upkept... but you wonder if they would want a backup lift to the summit in case the triple goes down. Probably not an issue any longer... too bad because I loved that lift...

Yes, we were, or at least I was, talking about Maple Valley. I'm sure the lifts are Haystack have been kept up.

Depending on what happens this weekend, I may take a ride over to Maple Valley and take some pics. You can see the trails after you leave our place and head down the road about 1500'. A lot of people in our neighborhood grew up skiing there. I'm sure some of them have some good stories.

I know what you mean with the snowmaking issues. Also, isn't the area "off the grid"? I thought I read that they used to use diesel generators to get the juice they needed to run the place.

It would be great to see the place open. It's certainly not as big as Mt. Snow or Stratton. But it would make a great ski area for the locals and with night skiing, the local kids after school.
