I am moving my website to Intercarve and need some help. I use FrontPage 2002, they do not have FrontPage extensions. Anyone know of a good FTP publisher that will accept FrontPage set up pages.

ick, i used to use frontpage and am sure glad i got some better software. using dreamweaver now and am simply amazed at how poor the html writing of frontpage is. i only used frontpage for html files and never touched frontpage extensions so i can't help you there.

for ftp clients, WS_FTP is a solid ftp client (and free since your in the education field i believe). firefox web broser has an excellent ftp extension. i believe cute ftp is another popular client. however, any of these clients should be able to transfer files to a server, i am not sure what the deal is with frontpage extensions...

Believe it or not, I still use FP for much of this site. Your server needs to have FP extension installed to be able to take advantage of some server-side FP features. FTP is FTP ... it has nothing to do with FP extensions. For them to work, you need to publish your site via FP and HTTP, I believe. Most reputable hosts have FP extensions available, but it's not usually enabled by default. Are you sure they are just not enabled, versus not available at all?

I GIVE UP! I QUIT! MY site is DONE! I can't figure this out and I am so frustrated. I have myself sick over this. I just had an asthma attack and my sugar is off and I am shaking like a leaf. I can not handle this so I quit! I am not computer literate and I just can't figure this out. My site is gone now...it shows up no where...this will make some happy I suppose.

I just can't handle this...I have been trying since last night and can't find a solution...I quit!

Teachski, step away from the computer and take a deep breath. Greg is right, most web host do have FP extensions, you just have to request that they turn them on. Also, I believe you really don't need them for anything except publishing, you should be able to just FTP you file up there. Let me know if you need any help.

Nope, this is happening for a reason!
Someone out (or up) there wants my site not to exist, or I would have gotten clear guidance when trying to put it on line. I have spoken to the people with the server...they told me after I paid that they do not have Frontpage extensions.

Well even without FP, you should be able to make it work. However, if you are used to FP, it may make your job a bit tougher. Can you get a refund? I not, and you want to proceed, PM me if you need any help.

Nobody likes a quitter!

At least, that's what I tell everyone that smokes...

I wouldn't let things like this physically affect you so drastically, not if you want to live for much longer. Stress kills. Take a deep breath, or meditate... or find some morphine, or something.

Although I agree life is much easier if you know the language before you use the aid, if you do know the language and the aid makes things faster and easier, there's no reason not to use it.

When I had a website at WPI, occasionally I'd have to look at the HTML and manually fix something but the gui programmers I used often made life much, much quicker and easier.

Imagine if the aids of intuitive languages and compilers were never developed and programmers truly had to do everything by hand in machine and assembly... probably would not be all that efficient.

It's funny that you mention that because I write code in a language from the late 50s and in assembly. We test our code by trying to crash it. Oh the wonders of working for a gov't contractor.

Heh, thanks for proving my point.

I don't think anyone's every used the terms "efficient" and "government contractor" in the same sentence ever.

No offense.

I ran into many stumbling blocks. It loaded, but it loaded wrong and I had to remove it all and start over. The person who runs the server turned me on to "FileZilla" and now it is reloading smoothly. Now, if Charter doesn't keep going down in the middle of the night I might be all set. It is loading smoothly right now. I hope to be back to fully operational by late tonight or tomorrow morning.

No offense taken. I realize that we are totally inefficient.

Charter's upload speeds are pretty dismal. 1/3 of the DL iirc.

If you publish often I'd call them and see if you can get any deals on an increased UL speed.

It was uploading at about 24.0 to 28.0 KB/S, that's not too bad (I don't think)
That's really slow. Dial-up modem speeds. Most broadband uploads speeds are 384 - 512 kbps or faster. Are you still having problems?
