Resort or Ski Area: Hidden Valley Club - Vernon, NJ

Conditions: Powder, packed powder

Trip Report: We got about 7 inches last night at my house which is about 15 minutes from Hidden Valley. I got to the mountain around 2:30 this afternoon, they open at 1:00 Monday through Thursdays so there was still some untracked powder along the edges of the trails. Also it appeared that they groomed everything but the beginner trail before most of the snow fell so it was great ungroomed powder conditions. They had to groom the beginner trail (Chicken Delight) due to it's lack of pitch.

I started out with a warmup run down Browse Along and then just hit all the open trails randomly (except Chicken Delight) for the next 2 1/2 hours with no break. Kurly Kue, the steepest trail that was open was a lot of fun because it was large piles of pushed around powder due to people going sideways down it because of its pitch. Upper Breakneck to Lower Breakneck was also great because it was more packed down so you could get a lot of speed but make nice carves because of the soft natural snow.

All in all it was a great day, the best conditions I've seen at HV all season, no scraped off areas. Nothing like a half foot of ungroomed powder to make for a great ski day.

Love seeing pics from the place where I learned to ski lo those many moons ago, except it looks strange in daylight - I'm pretty sure all my trips there were at night.
