Any recommendations? We are in Burlington tonight and just made a snap decision to head up tomorrow. Don't need top of the line but no crapholes either. Thanks.

When I was up there a couple years ago I stayed at Phillips Square. $140 a night when I was there (Thurs and Fri in December), about 300 feet off St. Catherine. Nice rooms and an awesome pool on the roof level with a nice view.

Marrott Residence Inn Downtown is where I stayed last I was there. In general, Marriott Residence Inn is my preferred brand. Price is usually reasonable, I like having a separate seating area and kitchenette (sometimes in the form of a two room suite, other times a large studio) and I know the rooms are going to be clean and have a good bed.

Very decent spacious rooms with bars and a club downstairs. For 2 rooms for 2 nights the total came to a bit over $700. Not a deal exactly but we are pretty happy with it. This was supposed to be a ski trip out of Burlington but, for obvious reasons, we said screw it.

The demeanor of the natives here is interesting. Throws me off a bit. You get the sense that you're a bother but I don't take it personal. It just weird.

General question: any basic tips on Montreal (things to do, districts to stay in, etc.)? Never been and I am planning to hit it for Memorial Day weekend. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Yeah, i can spot you from my office in your fancy hotel and i don't like it. I'm like a grumpy custom's agent and will not smile.

On a birghter note, you're in the right part of town if you don't speak french. If you get too "out east" (meaning anything east of Place-des-Arts), then you'll experience full immersion with not many people speaking english... Everything east and north of Mont-Royal is 95% french.

On the other hand, everything west of the mountain is mostly anglos...

It depends on what you're looking for!

Any ideas? Food? Drinks? Beer?
