How much snow is needed to float????

Powder to me is all about the float...how many inches of powder do you feel is needed to float??? I'm going with 4 inches for moderate density and 7 inches for light and dry..on mid-fats..

I've found 8" is just about the magic number. Probably far less on fat skis. Depends on pitch too obviously.

Depends on the consistency of the snow and width of the ski. 4" of heavy wind blow will get the job done. But 8" of blower and I'll scrap bottom on my turns even with my 96s. 8" usually gets the job done when it isn't blower.

It depends on how wide your skis are, how fast you're going, and what the density of the snow is. Get on one of those monster-wide powder skis and you can float on just about anything.
