Trip Report:

My daughter and I got there kind of late (about 10 AM) but there was plenty of snow on the open trails. It was sunny and in the mid to upper 20's. There was no line at the quad whatsoever all day. We skied for about five hours with only a short lunch break. We had to do a bit of dodging on some trails because they were running the guns pretty hard. I suppose they were trying to get a jump on the week-end. From the top you could do Hellgate, Minya-konka(sp?)East Side Drive, and a little lower, Racers Edge and parts of the Cliffs. Most of the lower area was also wide open. Hellgate was somewhat bumped up on the mountain side, and of course, Racersedge and the Cliffs had bumps with nice snow on them. Yes, Belt Pkwy was open, but we only did one run on it late in the day because they were pumping snow like crazy on it. It was a great "First day of the season" for us. It is a great feeling to be the only skier (or two of us) on a trail. You can really let those skis run without worrying about others. I feel bad for all you poor "week-enders" that are going to have to share that nice coverage this week-end. It does look like they are getting a nice dump, so that will open more terrain, and, if they don't groom too much, it should tire out the "skid-skiers" pretty quickly leaving the mountain open for fun.
