Hunter Mountain - 12/26/04

Date(s) Skied: 12/26/04

Resort or Ski Area: Hunter Mountain

Conditions: Frozen Granular w/ several inches of man made powder on top

Trip Report: I left northern Jersey at about 6:45 and rolled into Hunter about 8:30 with minimal traffic and a decent parking spot. The main quad got crowded around 11 so we took a little break and then skied the back of the mountain. The conditions were much better than I thought would be the case and they kept blowing snow until I left. Lots of traffic coming home around 2:30 but still made some good time. Looks like good conditions until the warmup forecasted for the end of the week.

Thanks for the report. Will most likely head to Huntah tomorrow and expect decent conditions especially after a couple inches of natural there tonight!

Had no idea you were at Hunter this weekend Wormly; we could have hooked up for a few runs.

Greg, Hunter was mint yesterday and will be even better today with the 6" or so that fell last night. Most runs were hard pack with very little ice, and they were blowing snow like mad on Clair's Way and Lower K27. Clair's rocked all day and then at about 2PM they dropped the rope on Lower K which made for 2 hours of manmade POW shots as the end of my weekend.

SWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

Bummer. So I guess the decision to hit Jiminy was the wrong one...? How were the crowds today? We got a late start and wouldn't have gotten going at Hunter until 11 AM so we thought Jiminy would be a better option, crowd-wise. It wasn't bad; pretty good in fact. TR to follow. Hunter may be in the cards for Thursday...

Deciding to go skiing is never a wrong decision! Hunter was relatively uncrowded on Sunday and I'm told the crowds yesterday and so far today have been sparse due to the cold. That might change as the week progresses and the weather warms up a bit, but I have a feeling that the crowds at Hunter will be tame this week.

I'm glad so many people drive right by Hunter and end up further north because they think Hunter is too crowded!
