In good shape??? Compared to what?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from all appearances the HSQ is Hunter's youngest lift, and it is nowhere near the age when you would expect it to be replaced due to obsolescence alone. I am pretty sure that the useful life of detachable chairlift is at least 20–25 years, and that doesn't look like a quarter-century-old lift to me.

To put it differently, I would be surprised if the reason for installing the six-pack is that the HSQ can no longer be maintained. Rather, they're putting in a six-pack to increase uphill capacity (useful with the zipline going in), and the salvageable components of the HSQ will go over to the West Side in 2011.

Have you not heard about all the problems they've had with the HSQ in the last few years, particularly this one? Also, IIRC, the lift was installed in the 80's sometime, so it is over 20 years old...

The current Quad was installed in 1987. It is also used 3 seasons a year. So that puts it age closer to that of a 30-35 year old lift. Plus, it was the 2nd or 3rd HSQ installed in the states, so that makes it a 1st model year. Would you buy a 1st model Year Car? If your on the bleeding edge, you're gonna suffer. This lift has always been plaqued with problems, but this year was by far the worst. Take it from someone who was evacuated off the lift Xmas week. I knew about the 6-pack 6 weeks ago...

Yeah, I agree about it being used 3 seasons taking a toll on it. There were a good deal more than 1 or 2 HSQ's before Hunter lift, mostly built by Doppelmayr. The HSQ at hunter is a POMA Alpha Falcon which there were only a few ever built, and kind of weird because it used the older Alpha main drive that lead into a Falcon chair terminal, unlike most HS lifts that have the drive and terminal housed together. They were replaced only a few years later with completely new design.

SInce the failure at Xmas and rebuild in January, she has performed without a hitch. Even during the big dump, the quad had few issues.

The B lift is Hunter's newest lift. G2 is the most recently installed lift but I believe it was just moved and was the old racing trail lift.

Actually the Poma on the Highlands is the newest lift.

G2 is the old G chair that went to the top of Racers Edge - It was a great chair... You could lap Racers and Ike. Tucked away.... Lift towers in the middle of Racers Edge where it;s narrow,,,
