#1 Why did they build the top part of Hunter One? it seems useless, anyone know the thinking behind it. Was it originally a top to bottom before they realized they needed a beginner area?

#2 Where was the expansion considered before the NY governor made it a bird sanctuary?

#3 For a number of years there was a trail that was supposed to be added to Hunter West, was listed on the maps for years in the 80's. http://skimap.org/data/315/1/1283124373.jpg

Thanks for all your help!!

Actually, the trail on the left is the upper highlands. It is used for race training via a Poma that is only open for that purpose. The trail on the right is hemlocks, and they never make snow on that.

X-trail. Still skiable with plenty of natural, albeit with a couple of cliffs you need to go around.

Thanks for all your help!!

The "X" trail on Hunter West was to be a lift line to new, higher summit, though still not the peak of Hunter Mtn. Not sure the deal behind it not happening.

X trail was stopped because it was cut onto state land
top of the highlands is used for race training and reserved for powder days
several times they looked to get permission to build to the top of Hunter, but never got approval. Too bad.
