Well right now it is Memorial Day weekend and we're still a long ways away from the winter. But it dawned on me, that all of my friends who I skied with over the past few years have all moved out of Massachusetts. Could it really be I will be skiing solo for the most part next year (which I don't mind doing on occasion), but it is much more fun to ski with friends :(

Oh well, I felt the need to vent...

Hook up with AZers next season. Problem solved. Can't help you with the long ways from winter thing though.

Well you won't be skiing solo very often next season if you follow the following steps..

1. Respond to AndyZee's threads...he's a few frys short of a happy meal but people like him on here.

2. A few days before you plan on skiing a particular mountain begin a roll call thread. Example: Mount Snow 11/27...Hey All I'll be at Mount Snow on November 27th...anybody else going to be there..then arrange a time and place to meet.

3. Since you live in Mass..you're withing a few hours of most AZ days..since I live down in PA..it's not so easy for me..but I still managed to ski with a bucnh of AlpineZoners this last season.

4. When you're riding the lift with a cool skier or rider..ask if they want to join you for a run..If they suck and can't keep up..halfway down say that you're spleen hurts...say peace out and split...if the person is cool continue skiing with them. At Jackson Hole..a skied with a guy from the shuttle bus the entire day because he was curious about the mountain and it was his first day skiing there..so I was the tourguide and be bought the beer at the end of the day..plus since I was the tour guide..I chose all the runs I wanted to ski...Holla..

5. Your buddies that are moving out of Mass aren't dead..you can still arrange ski trips with them...I ski with my buddy Tom who lives in Montana 2-3 days every year when I ski out west..sure it's not all the time like before..but it's still great to catch up..

6. Begin drinking heavily..

Yeah, I hardly ever get to ski with friends, so I've gotten used to it. There are some things that are good about it (i.e. not having to decide amongst where to go, no ability limitations), but it does suck at times to not be skiing with someone.

Just make some internet friends. So far this season I have skied 68 days. About 8 of these were by myself, 12 were with friends (non-internet ones), and the rest were with internet dorks + friends of internet dorks. That's basically 50 days with forum losers in one season... I'm a stinky, nasty, fungi foot hippy and still managed 50 days with internet people, so if I can do it, you can to!

You'll be shocked and amazed if you generate GTG with AZer's.
Those times when I've posted on SkiDiva or Epic, I've had 20+ people show up to join me on the slopes.

Internet has certainly changed the face of friendship. ;)

Sounds like a plan, as for points 4, 5 and 6...

4. What happens if he is a she, and she still a pretty piss poor skier, yet she does have a hot little body? Now granted I am engaged and would never act upon such carnal feelings, but none the less, hot girls on skis is just too good to pass up? Do I say I blew out my spleen and let her take "care" of me?

5. I dunno my buddy Erik moved to Colorado and is always raving about the snow and rubbing it in how great it is. I really really really hate it, although none the less, it does give me an excuse to travel out to Colorado and ski on the cheap though :) Good point I suppose.

6. I drink heavily, early and often ... Plus I brew my own beer... Maybe just maybe I can make an AZ special brew for the winter! :)

Skiing alone does kind of suck . . .

I would immediately begin making plans to move to Colorado . . . Oh wait . . . . You're engaged? Forget it, you are screwed.

Actually, one way to both score a free pass and meet a bunch of people is to work at a mountain . . . a lot of mountains have jobs like "Mountain Host" where you just cruise around and narc on people ;-)
