This pretty much seals me giving zero dollars to the evil empire next winter. I had already been saying to my kids this year will likely be it because I never seem to make it to all the Indy places I'd like to in a season. That's partially because we are at Gunstock most every Sunday, but also because there are just so many Indy options now in New England. Hard to not buy at least one day for Wildcat as I love it so, but Burke is a fair trade.

they are really becoming viable as a single product, especially for someone who only skis about 20 days a season in new england with no destination trip. but even the trippers can put together a nice itinerary in lots of places using only indy. i'm not giving up my ikon any time soon but i cheer the progress of indy for sure

It’s making me consider if i need the full Ikon pass after this season. Whether that’s just dropping to Base or exploring Mountain Collective again we will see when the prices drop. But other than my BC trip my Ikon numbers are pretty low and I have no need to ski Ikon during the blackout dates with all these Indy options.

That's pretty much us. 20-25 days/year with one trip/year out west. This year, we are in Colorado combining Loveland, Granby and Sunlight. Bit of driving but thin crowds even on a bluebird Saturday

Loveland is also a great place to hit on the way back to the airport. It's only 1 1/2 drive to Denver Airport and you are on the other side of the Continental divide and on the easer side of the drive. You can pretty much ski until 2pm and easily make a 5pm flight back.

Much needed Monday off - shout out to the smaller Indy Mts located near me in Pa. Burning day 2 at Montage before the rain on Wed - firm and fast this AM and loosening up now. Unlike some corporate mountains blew snow Sunday and overnight

Think I’m going to head to Greek this weekend, Never been and always wanted to go. They’re forecasted for rain on Wed also but a couple plus inches of snow the following days

As a serious question can you actually count on making a 5 or 6pm flight leaving Loveland at 2? Skiing with a friend in a few weeks who would like to do just that but are worried about traffic; minus the rental car return time since I leave later. We were looking at skiing Eldora the last day because of traffic concerns but would rather do Loveland. Never skied anywhere but Sunlight in CO before (devastated to hear they are ripping out the old segundo lift).

I wouldn't count on it. I only drive that stretch of 70 about 8-10 times a year. Locals might have some magic tips about driving it. It can be smooth sailing or you can sit at Floyd Hill for an hour. Leaving at 1 would be safer.

Sunlight is awesome, but Loveland is the real CO big mountain experience.

I wouldn't try it on a Sunday!

But other days I think that's fine. Done that a lot on Mondays (non-holiday). Pre-pandemic though.

What I did was keep an eye on the traffic volume on google map. Because Loveland is ahead of the jam of the tunnel, you can beat them if you see the traffic builds up, you can quickly jump into your car and still sail smoothly into Denver. I haven't done any of these post-pandemic. So I can't say if the traffic and crowd pattern is still the same

You can peel off 70 right after idaho springs and drop down into golden. I feel like the world is in on that now though

Thanks for the tips. Is Eldora then smoother sailing to the airport than any of the I-70 areas?

Original plan is Loveland then Eldora Sunday to avoid the worry of traffic.

For sure. Less chance of getting held up. 70 east on a Sunday is dicey at best.

More and more people will be doing that as they work on what they are calling "the Flyover" on Floyd Hill. But the back ups start west off there like Georgetown Hill, or the west side off the tunnel if your over there. The toll lane is really kind of a joke as it really just the shoulder and can only be opened at certain mandated times (that surprised me when I heard that) At least February is over. Maybe slow but things ease from here on out. Denverites are looking forward to spring, though it looks like the mountains are about to get pounded.
