Trip Report:
I got a new pack, ULA Catalyst, and decided to do a backpack to Isolation with my dad and brother to try it out. We got to the Rocky Branch trailhead at about 12:30 and then eat lunch and geared up. We started up on the trail just after 1:30. The trail climbed gradually to the height of land with one stretch of flat about a half mile before the height of land. Once we started descending it began to lightly rain and the sky looked very threatening. We hustled along to the shelter to beat the rain. It ended up not really raining hard for any extended period of time but it was a light drizzle with occasional intensifying until about 8:00. Got up the next morning and headed up the Isolation Trail. I’ve never seen so much mud in my life. Numerous times I sunk in above my boots. We bushwhacked around the second and third crossings but the first and last crossings were no trouble at all. Above the last crossing the trail became very wet and appeared to be a stream in places from the intense rain the day before that we must have just missed. We made the summit at 10:00 and hung around for a bit before heading back to the shelter for a leisurely lunch and then packed up and headed back to the car. We had a good time and the pack worked awesome. I highly recommend it even after just one use.

Sometime if you have the chance, try a loop hike up spectacular Boot Spur or the wondrous Glen Boulder trail to the summit for superb views and out via RB tr. Views galore!
