Brock, believe me I'm glad you're chiming in here. I'd like to see more snowboarders make their opinions known.

I believe you. But I am a skier first(40 years), snowboarder second(3 years). Not sure why you feel the need to subsume me merely because I express an opinion opposed to MRG's policy.

But let's
try to keep it civil and clean. You don't do the snowboarding community or yourself any favors by flinging expletives around.

Please post a link to the policies regarding language. I've read the forum policies, and maybe I've missed the requirement for g-rated language. Most of what I say is at least pg-13, so I need to know. And I resent the comment about the "snowboard community. Once again, this is another cheap shot aimed at promulgating a stereotype. I'm 43 years old and i resent it. I can imagine how the true targets of that stereotype feel.

It's clear the snowboarding community deserves a voice; strong and loud is good, G-rated even better.

Condescension.

Thank you for acknowledging that it's clear that the snowboarding "communitity" deserves a voice. Glad we got that out of the way. Do you hear how you sound? Sorry Jim, but this post of yours was insulting to me.

Do you know Karl Plattner? He's a close family friend. Things ended bad for him at Hunter. I like the Slutskys too, shame they couldn't work things out.

I started out when the Plattners ran the ski school show. I liked it alot back then, we had quite a few examiners on staff and in addition to the teaching, I got alot of help with my technique that I appreciate more with each passing year. Karl was always on snow somewhere watching and giving advice when warranted.

As you mentioned, it ended bad for the Plattners. Very messy. But the mountain was determined to take the franchise away. So, ski school is run more like a corporation now...take the money and herd 'em through the system like cattle.

Sucked the fun right out of it.

Sorry you feel this way, none of the way you interpreted this the way I intended it. Before you rake me over the coals, you ought to read my posts on this topic...you'll see I agree with you 100% including the subject of the MRG ban and these stereotypes you mention. In fact, it's pretty insulting to me that you accuse me of stereotyping when I'm one of the few skiers here who also resent that very stereotype.

Fire away any way you see fit.

Yes, Betsy Pratt died about 10 years ago...that's when the co-op really started. Or did the co-op already exist (MRV insiders?).

Where the hell did you get that info? This is about as lame as it gets. Your supposed to be a moderator for god's sake.

Her driveway is nowhere near MRG. Let me get this straight you block someones driveway and they are the jerk. This is so pathetic it's almost laughable.

You guys don't know anything about Betsy Pratt or what kind of a person she is.

Think you need to re-read the entire thread, BV. Jim is not being condescending. He supports the argument against the MRG snowboard ban. I'll let Jim address the language thing, but I would say PG-13 is a good gauge.

And based on your math, you started skiing at age 0....? :p

I will most assuredly not do that. I thought it unfair that you focused publicly on my casual use of a single epithet and did not respond to the substance of my post. I can deal with that, but as i said, I was honestly unaware that forum policies dictated g-rated language only. For that mistake, I am sorry.

So that makes me immune to making a mistake? Jeez, I even asked for help from the MRV contingent. I have no idea why you are telling me about her driveway either  !

I've taken my lumps for the day here...signing off.

Nice marketing director...
Can't even get the link right...

And when you fix it - it requires a password...

Yikes! However I did start out my comments by admitting I'm no maketing "wizard". Obviously facts speak for themselves. The correct link is www.madriverglen.com/coop . Sorry for the error!

BTW, Betsy Pratt is far from dead. She still owns and operates the Inn at the Mad River Barn down the road from MRG. In fact she still skis several times a week and I am always amazed to see her around the mountain in places folks half her age are often reluctant to go.

I believe that it actually has gone to a shareholder vote over whether to allow snowboarders and they said no. So it's not just Betsy's policy that is grandfathered in. That is the voice of the shareholders - like it or not.

Personally I love MRG and do trailwork there a couple of times every year. I wouldn't want to see a thing change. There are plenty of other skiing/snowboarding options around if you don't like their policies.

*sigh*. Do you think I would post without having read the entire thread exhaustively? I'm more compulsive than you give me credit for. Btw, I did not say that he is aware of the condescension. A critical difference.
He supports the argument against the MRG snowboard ban.

yes, yes, but forget MRG. I was responding to the specific comments that were repeated about "the snowboard community" deserving "a voice". I could be completely wrong, but i found it condescending. I *hoped* that I was wrong and I *accept* that I am wrong now that Jim has said he did not mean it that way. But do not confuse my reaction with some imagined misreading of the thread in its entirety. That was not the case, I assure you.

I'll let Jim address the language thing, but I would say PG-13 is a good gauge.
okey dokey. just need to know. Under the MPAA ratings system, one use of the word #@*% automatically makes a film PG-13. If you use it more than once, it becomes R-rated. Same for bs word, but i've already used that, so I need some clarification first: If PG-13 is the standard, can I use the bs word or #@*% word once every thread? Or once in every forum? Or just once on this site, period. Just curious.

And based on your math, you started skiing at age 0....? :p

was on skis before i could walk, i have pictures of me at 11 months on skis. So , technically, you're right. My math was off by one year.

I'm trying to stay out of these arguments, but I think this needs to be clarified a little. AFAIK there is no requirement written or otherwise that the language be g-rated in here. I think what Jim was trying to say is that in his opinion your argument will be stronger and you message clearer if you use g-rated language instead of tossing out expletives and insults.

Believe me, Jim G is not your enemy here. He is probably the most pro-snowboarding skier I know.

Listen , Jim. In the end I got no beef with you. I was responding to something very subtle in your language, and I could be wrong about that. Don't get apoplectic.

Peace.

And may Betsy Pratt outlive us all, cuz if anyone can, god knows she can. God bless her.

I used the word bullshit. This was all Jim replied to. It could have been done in PM and that would have been cool. But to open up on me and besmirch the snowboarding "community" cuz I used the word bullshit is not cool.Moderators are coming out of the woodwork, but what remains is one plain simple fact: I was ignorant of a policy that doesn't exist.

Believe me, Jim G is not your enemy here. He is probably the most pro-snowboarding skier I know.

Somehow I am not comforted by that fact.

no problem. just state that in the forum policies and people like me won't be surprised. PG-13 , contrary to what Greg said, is apparently verboten.

This is clearly g-rated only.

Thanks for the , uh, clarity.

You're missing the point. Jim wasn't pointing out a violation of policy, he was trying to help your argument. A couple of BS's dropped here and there are not the point!
