You weren't requested to prove it, you were requested to verify you're negative. Try writing Volkl or K-2.

foot-in-mouth disease

You aren't the first to catch foot-in-mouth disease. Back to the original question, what will this do to the Volkl and Marker product? I know what happened to GEZE. On top of that I wonder if a new U.S. Ski Mfg'er will emerge given the weakness of the dollar. Volkl ski prices will become real eye-brow raising in the next year unless they find a way to cut costs.

volkl prices are already eye brow raising. if anything, k2 buying out the volkl line should mean cheaper prices due to better distribution and overhead handling. given the weak dollar, prices across the board may rise. i've experienced the weak dollar first hand while importing records from UK shops, it's rediculous what a trillion dollar deficit with no exit plan does to the value of the USD. regardless, most top quality skis are being imported already (volkl, atomic, dynastar are all foreign makes, i can't remember the others...), so i don't think we're gonna see a huge price spike. i think manufacturers might take the hit on their margin in order to ensure continued sales volume. i'm no expert in economics so don't give my opinion too much weight.

Ski Prices

Ah, there's no expert on economics despite what many want you to think. I have a great quote somewhere from Mark Twain or G. B. Shaw in regards to that. You're right about the better company organization helping Volkl. I think in addition to that they may keep the price-point integrity even if it reduces sales. (The Volkl rep. I knew way-back-when had a great way of defending their outrageous prices using that phrase.) More than likely, though, ski mfg.'s will raise their prices next season, but it won't be too shocking. I have found that the salesmen always use this threat as a selling point to clear their inventory now. Very few ski mfg. facilities exist in the U.S. Is the Olin plant still putting out skiis in Middletown, Conn.? How about Volant? As to high priced skiis, I wonder if LaCroix still sells skiis. As to bindings, you can't make bindings in the U.S. due to the litigation situation here. There are backcountry and cross country bindings (along with skiis) made in Canada. Marmot will go the way of North Face IMHO. Clothing sales bring in the profits.

OK, to bring this thread to a close, I went with the Fischer RX-8s, lovingly delivered by the good folks at Ski Fanatics in Campton. Had a great week with 'em at Waterville Valley.....

Too late.

Too late to bring it to a close. Fischer is a good brand, but I don't like the way they have taken over N.H. I once knew a Fischer rep. who retired to shop ownership in Concord. I worked in the shop during the holidays, but this guy was just too much to take. He went out of business, and I'ld be curious if they sent him back to Austria. I think that you were a victim of a slick advertising campaign. Was it the way the support picking up the litter on the Interstate that through you into their camp?
