True enough at least in terms of how much riding they show. That's why I changed the title. Jaw dropping scenery though. Not bad for a promo video. Of course they've got the goods to work with.

It was pretty cool . . . Killer scenery.

I don't know about jaw-dropping, though ;-)

i gave up halfway through. Scenery was cool but not enough skiing. Plus, it seemed almost like an infomercial.

The terrain there is... but nothing around here with a tram that takes up stuff like that.

oh certainly there is terrain in the US that rivals Europe. The only thing I can think of in terms of a peak tram station like that in the states though would be if someone were to build one on top of Grand Teton.

I went to Europe once as a kid and we skied the Schiltorn which had a revolving restaurant on top of the peak, also very impressive. If I'm not mistaken a James Bond film ski scene was shot there.

Yeah, in the movie DHSkier the gondola says "Titlis" on it. I remember when Bond almost got thrown off the top of the mountain but alas the good guy got the upper hand and threw thr ruskie to his death thousands of feet below. Isn't there a big mogulfield right under the gondola?

Chamonix looks amazing. Imagine two Jackson Holes stacked on top of each other for vertical and acreage = to or exceeding Whistlers. I remember skiing at Snowbird for a season and saying to a friend who lived out there "Bet this reminds you of skiing in Europe?" He replied "Not really. But it's good training ground for the vertical you see over there." Snowbird training ground? Wow. Hard to imagine a place three times the vert of Snowbird. That place is more than adequate for killer long steeps and powder filled chutes-- they're everywhere-- and has the driest (copious) snow in the world. That said Cham would be an experience of a lifetime. The exposure's :spin:

Right where I want to be
Vallee Blanche is an awesome run. The walk out of the tram building is absolutely scary with only a thin metal cable at knee height separating you from shear drop of over 1000 feet. You are walking on a snow covered ice path carrying your skis. The run down is incredible. My wife and I hired a guide who brought us down the less traveled path. I had a hang over from drinking way too many Guinness the night before with a bunch of crazy Irish/Brits (another story for another day). My wife was 3 months prego with our first kid and every time our guide would say "watch out crevasse", my wife would fall. Helicopters were flying in all day plucking people out crevasse. It was a great day and I dream of doing it again some day.

That is the Piz Gloria restaurant. It was in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It was Blofeld's lair in the movie. The movie paid to help finish the building of the tram and building.

OMG. . . I want to get out there more now than ever. Nice pix CBM--- Remember reading in a ski mag about Grand Montets. Steepest stuff at Cham. There's also a couloir called "Poubelle" I saw in a WM movie with the sort of steep that makes your legs drop away.

We went when they had a pretty bad snow season but it was still one of the best trips ever. Had to have the skis repaired everyday from all the rocks. The on mountain food blew away anything I have ever had in the states. Problem was you din't want to move after eating it all. The town of Chaminox was one of the best party towns, the Aussies ruled!!!
