I've always held a nostalgic affection for that building. The rough-at-the-edges function-only building always takes me back in time. All I need is a place to sit and warm for a few minutes. Nice.
Ugh, Ahhh! AGGHHTHTGH!!! %(()%^)%(@!!!!

I LOVE old school lodges and HATE HATE HATE frilly resorty lodges. But stateside is super uncomfortable in almost all regards. Not enough space, cramped, wet, and cold if you are unlikely to be sitting by a door. Tight quarters in the mens bathroom at the pissahs. Not enough spots for bags, etc, etc, etc. I'd put Stateside lodge Jay amongst the worst lodges in New England that I have visited. Functional. But barely. A place like MRG's basebox has that rough around the edges feel while still being functional and very much full of character so I can appreciate that. Stateside at Jay is just plain rough.

That landswap deal is AWESOME news. Aside from the new lodge with bar over at tramside I find that to be the most awesome news about their expansion plans to date.

snowmaking on river quai?

steve, say it ain't so.

No snow making on Upper River Quai. Click here for their new snow making coverage. You can see that River Quai, UN & Racer snow making was traded in previously to expand snow making elsewhere. In fact, according to their ACT 250 permit, this snow making expansion is not really an expansion but a reallocation of resources. They are not increasing their capacity to blow more snow.

Gee, you're kinda fussy River! ;) :razz::razz::razz:

Otis Ridge Takes the cake. A small area, maybe a Dozen picnic tables, a wood stove in the center. Kids literally dive over each other to get out, only way to navigate is to step over equipment and avoid sliding on the dumped fries and ketchup, jackets piled ski high. Forget about putting your food on the table - you hold it in your hand and eat!

Saving grace: the friendliest people I've ever met anywhere.

Snowbird has an enclosed carpet... not the same kind we're talking about here.

As the picture may make clear, Snowbird's is a tunnel through the mountain. As for the issue of someone falling, they don't have anyone standing along the way -- so not sure what they would do. I think I remember there being someone at the end of it though. Also, beginners probably aren't using it, unlike's Jay's moving carpet.

We actually updated the plans and knocked off roughly 45 feet to allow the homeowner-access to remain unchanged.

Just received my season pass application in the mail. I think someone needs to check their facts?

From the application under SNOWMAKING UPGRADES:
...and we'll be doubling up on the hydrants on Upper River Quai.
There is no permit for snowmaking on Upper River QUAI. So what trail are they really doubling the hydrants on.

Under RAISING'EM JAY
... will have a new 300' enclosed Magic Carpet...
Previously stated at 250' then reduced by 45'.
