Plenty of things for families to do in the summer at Jay peak when it rains? Now we'll put getting-wet over on the side there, let's start a list. And I have a family that lives right here so maybe I can help. You first.

Not sure I'd use Stowe as a benchmark for golf success. They have 6 courses within 30 minutes and aren't close enough to MTL to act as a logical day-market draw. We've seen rounds increase every year for 3 consecutive. This will be an interesting summer given the economy and softening of the CAD dollar but we're still forecasting to be cash-positive. Remember, we're carrying not debt service on the course so we aren't encumbered the same way other resort courses are. We're further north but we're also a heckuva lot closer to 5m Canadians who love to golf and drive to play.

Yeah, i like the way you put things in perspective... I understant being stuck in winter could be pretty bad for normal families...

I still don't see it in Summer... Plenty of things to do while it rains still... and does it really rain for a few days straight in summer? A typical summer... last year was awful!

And golf was needed 10 years ago when the popularity of golf was growing... now, golf courses aren't doing so great... Stowe as said that their golf course was a mistake and loosing money... I hardly see how Jay can make money off it while being further up North...

But thanks for bringing that point of vue in... I like it!
(still not sold on those type of things...)

this is a great thread! I love Jay, and the ski mountain it represents and all of these things going on are simply improvements that will make my non-hardcore skiing wife potentially interested in visiting more. I also think Jay has the right group of people running the place that they won't forget who they are and what there mission is to keep things on the right track.

The prospect of a waterpark at Jay that includes ziplines and a standing surfable wave is very intriguing. Definitely a feature that would attract attention throughout New England. I can see the hockey rink filling beds all year long as the youth and adult hockey segment is very passionate about their tournaments and their "destination" games. Not sure if that rink even needs to be at the base area or could be down in the town of Jay where there seems to be plenty of room. These are changes that are inevitable given the economics of ski areas and these times in general.

Well, after reading Steve's post, i can see a market for that...

The Ice Rink will be the only one within an hour drive +...

The water park could be different then the standard "picture" we think about... surfable waves... that's pretty cool... Would differ from my childhood memories of kids yelling "Marco" / "Pollo" at the pool during summer... Back then, all we had was a pool AND lift-served mountain biking... oh yeah, i'm bringing the topic back! lol! I should post old-school pics of mountain biking at Jay Peak... first experiences on a mountain bike were around jay and on the mountain... rigid bikes and cantis...

Now i can only dream of an all-mountain singletrack system that would run all over the mountain from Beaver Pond to Timbuktu... Singletrack bliss... but with a DH style to it... And to think that at some point there was plans for singletrack in Canyonland!
