CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — With the winter season just a few weeks away, you may be thinking about a new pair of skis or snowboard. Why not join the fight against cancer and get a free pair of Rossignol skis or snowboard and guarantee your place at Sugarloaf/USA's most anticipated social event of the year.

The 2006 Sugarloaf Charity Summit is Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 and includes day and evening events on and off the slopes. One month earlier, on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, skiers and riders will be given the opportunity to build momentum for the Charity Summit by skiing in the Second Annual Carry The Torch For The Cure Torchlight Parade. All proceeds of both events will benefit the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center and the Maine Cancer Foundation.

The highlight of the Summit will be the Sugarloaf Charity Ball, which is slated for Saturday night, in the King Pine Room of the Base Lodge. Maine's own Edith Jones Project, an all-female big band, will once again set the stage for dancing the night away. To cap off the evening, a number of very special items will be sold in a spirited and fast paced live auction. Last year, the Sugarloaf Charity Summit raised more than $105,000 for these Maine-based charities that fund research and outreach programs throughout the state.

In the daylight hours leading up to the Ball, Charity Summit participants can compete in the charity race on Boardwalk. Participants strive to gain the "fastest" time, which is a combination of actual race time and the amount of money raised. The more money a participant raises, the more time that is deducted from their actual race time. The Charity Race is the open to the public, race your friends, your family, your coaches, Amos, and others for a fee at the start gate.

In addition to prizes for "winning" the race, all participants who raise at least $1,200 receive a new pair of Rossignol B2 skis or a snowboard, which will be available in December.

Those pledging at the $1,200 Snowfields level also receive two tickets to the Sugarloaf Charity Ball. Cruiser level participants raising $600 receive one ticket to the Ball. Individual tickets to the Charity Ball will be available on an as-available basis.

Everyone who registers for the Charity Summit by Dec. 1, 2005 will be entered to win your choice of a cat ride to the summit, a midweek ski and stay package or 5 lift tickets.
