Resort or Ski Area: Killington, Vermont

Conditions: Powder, ice with a few inches fresh, huge bumps on Outer Limits, Powder :) ; 8 inch of fresh powder, with an additional 2 inches accumulated throughout the day,

Trip Report: Expected a nice weekend of skiing, the temps have been down, Killington has been making plenty of snow, more trails open. What do we find when we get there, winter and about 8" of fresh powder.

We started out in Rutland, where there was perhaps and inch or two on the ground, once we turned off of RT 4 on to the Access Rd. this was the scene:

We pull into our favorite spot in the back of the parking lot at KBL about 7:45, nice and empty and withing 2-3 minutes it filled up. When we first pulled in, none of the cars in this pic were there:

Guess the news of fresh powder and the arrival of winter spread quick.

Not sure why, but on our first lift ride up we notices everyone trying to hide their skis, maybe a rash of ski robberies or something?

For our first run of the day, we decided to head over to Vagabond which at the end of December had some nice pow. We get there only to find the trail was roped off, guessed it must have been reserved for some VIPs or something, since it looke really nice. Vee said that we payed to get on the mountain like everyone else, so why would it be reserved just for a few privilaged people. I knew there was a reason I married this girl, so we said hell with it, ducked the rope and found ourselves in what seemed like fresh Utah pow.

After this we head over to Skype Peak and Superstar, this was a bit dissapointing. Superstar did get the fresh pow, but there was a lot of ice underneath. One trip down and we worked our way over to Bear mountain and Outer Limits. Unbelieavable how just three weeks ago it was nothing but grass, now it was all Volkswagon sized bumps that OL is famous for. Killington has done a hell of a job blowing snow here. Unfortunetly Vee wasn't ready for tackling bumps like this and it was getting to be 10 am so we worked our way over to the KBL for the KZone meeting. Little break, hooked up with a friend and worked our way over to the North Ridge/Glades area. Did a few runs down Rime, East Fall, which were nice. Vee being the trooper she is then announces that she want to do some tree sking. So, off to the woods we go. Went to our favorite lil unmarked tree run, had snow, but still not ready. Roots and rocks poking through in different areas, definetly doable, but not for us and our skis. If they get another 12", this will be perfect. Once out of the trees, we took a trip down Cascade, a bit on the scratched side, but not too bad. Then my friend had to meet his girlfriend who was taking lessons over at Snowshed. We went with him, hung out had some lunch and decided it was time for his gal to get some mor experience, up until now she's been doing nothing but Snowshed. We took her over to Ramshead and had her take a few turns down header. Girl did a great job and really enjoyed the experience.

We wrapped it up at about 3:30 and hit happy hour at Charity's. Temps Saturday, got suprisingly brutal. It was 26 degrees in Rutland when we started out, by the time we finished sking, it was 7 degrees in the KBL parking lot. Had to be no more then 0 at the peak, with heavy winds, I estimate windchill was no more then -20. But great day of sking and nice to see that winter has finally arrived!

Sunday was bluebird skys, temp no more than 10 degrees and Killington snowmakers at work again. By Sunday they were up to 123 trails:
