Beat me to it.. ;)

I thought as a snow making speculation thread, skiing was more appropriate, but I don't really have a preference...

Everyone's a critic.......

I never miss a chance to bust the boss's chops. ;)

I get where you're going with it. It's still gonna be too warm during the day, and I'm guessing the ground is still pretty warm. No snowmaking yet, IMHO...

Two things, that forecast is for Killington, VT. That normally means the town, not K-peak, which means up on the hill, especially at higher elevations, should be significantly colder.

Secondly, even if they don't make snow in the next 15 days, the cold temps should help cool the ground down a lot in preparation for it.

Just saying... :snow:

It looks like starting around the 10th, there should be below freezing temps at the peak. But it will probably take a while for that to migrate down to lower elevations.

Cold temps really don't matter as I see you selected the Killington area as the weather map focus. We all know that they don't have the balls to blow in October even if it is cold enough to do so (lame blowing out the mice aside)....

Usually not a fan of long-term forecasts, but all the ones I've seen are saying the same thing, including the latest from Accuweather.com http://ow.ly/sMX0 :snow:
See what I mean? SpinmasterK dodged your 15-Day topic and focused on the loooooong term forecast. Hmmmmm....

Though just to fuel the fire of this thread a little more, the dude quoted in that Accuweather.com article predicts snow totals by city and has Burlington, VT at 30% above average  Believe it when I see it, dude! Significantly below normal temps and extreme cold does not seem god for natural snow. It is pretty rare we get much snowfall when it gets that cold because the moisture is way far away.

wake up on the wrong side of bed? ;-)

but you're right. doubt they'll blow snow, they haven't even sent us our season passes yet ... i'd say the target date to start is around the 25th unless they get a really favorable forecast.

Accuweather 15 day is just the output from the GFS weather model. You can see more detail here:
http://www.arl.noaa.gov/READY_animations.php
After a few days it's more of a tool for meteorologists to use as a starting point for a forecast, it's quite inaccurate and there are often wild swings each time it runs.

Bingo! Often the GFS that far out will provide great chatroom fodder for the multitude of amateur meteorolgists that especially exist in the accuweather weather forums. Many a time though what may look like an epic weather event (cold/snow/etc) way out on the GFS will amount to little if anything at all. Now if the majority of 72 or 96 hour models (more than just the GFS) are in agreement, then some excitement MIGHT be warranted. Forcasting even with today's super computers and satellites is still at best an inexact science, just a ridiculous amount of variables that come into play

I dunno, the feedback so far has been positive. Hopefully, it's not just lip service. Here's hoping.

No amount of hope, hype, spin, positive attitude, or minor snowmaking upgrades is going to help them get open.

Killington will open sometime between Late October and Early December, weather and conditions permitting.

Having to blow 80 to 100 acre feet of snow, at as low as 2600ft elevation is always going to hold them back until they change to an upper mountain only strategy.

It's all just lip service...

Yep. Obviously weather-dependent. Although I would say by late November is a safe bet. It would have to be one helluva crappy fall to have to wait until early December. Possible, I guess, but you're just spinning to the negative side.
