Permitting, Snowmaking, Back to SHRED Rail Jam On

Posted by Tom Horrocks on November 3, 2009

The Back to SHRED Rail Jam is scheduled to take place this Saturday at Killington in front of the K-1 Lodge. Weather permitting; we’ll have a few snow guns set up there for the next few evenings to prep the venue for our season kick-off event.

We’ll make the final call on the event by 6 p.m. Thursday prior to registration opening online. With the field limited to only 60 competitors, on-line registration will open at 8 p.m. Thursday night, so check the event page for updates.

Speaking of snowmaking, we’re back on Tuesday night in the Northridge area with Low Energy Guns going on Rime, Reason and Lower East Fall. If conditions permit, our new Techno-Alpin M-18 Fan Gun will also be going at the intersection of Lower Chute, Mouse trap and Lower Bunny Buster.

The forecast is currently calling for marginal snowmaking temperatures over the next couple of days and some natural snow Wednesday evening through early Friday morning, however, we will continue to monitor temperatures and expand snowmaking when appropriate. As we’ve stated all along, we’re all very excited to get the season going with top-to-bottom skiing off Killington Peak served by the K-1 Gondola.

Were not on the hill this weekend.

So, they can blow snow at the K-1 base for a rail jam, but they can't blow snow to open.

No, it's about the mountain I pay $3000 a year to ski at that's run by a pack of clowns.

You should get a job there. I'm sure with your diplomacy and tact you'll work yourself up the chain of command in short order.

Here's where they get into the same mistakes they made in November 2006. They pass on making snow to the bottom of the K-1 in the current window because it looks like a mixed bag and only allows for snowmaking overnight, even though they have 4 nights. Then it looks like weather the next week isn't favorable and they would lose the lower snow. So they hold off until the later part of next week.....but say that doesn't pan out. Then they are scrambling to open on the 21st, or even thanksgiving.

They have an event coming to the park, they have to get it ready. If it were on my dime I would not blow snow either. They can get that place going in two days when the time is right. Take your kids for a walk. It will be here soon enough.

Aren't they resuming snowmaking tonight? Would only make sense that if they can open the base of K2 they could open top to bottom.

Snowgun(s) at the base are running again, but not so far on lower Snowdon. FAIL!
