It looks like your snowmaking issues are over.According to Killingtons snow report this morning:
Thursday, January 12, 2012Happy Thursday and happy new SNOW! Mother Nature brought Killington an inch and a half to 2 new inches last night!

An inch and a half deserves exclamation marks.

Sad

It's a start, but probably not enough to open any trails they weren't going to open anyway.

i didn't think Okemo had any expert trails?

hahaha!!

I don't know.. I've been to Killington twice in December and it was the best skiing in the Northeast at the time.

Now that the Doozie tour is in sesh I don't expect to return any time soon. Especially now that other mountains that are more fun to ski anyway are starting to get some real snow.

Gotta respect Killington for being the first to open and have a decent amount of skiable terrain. But now it seems like some other mountains are taking the lead.

Not that I would waste my time at flat and boring places like Stratton or Okemo... but Sugarbush is starting to look good and Mad River Glen might be fully open after this current storm!

Not to mention Jay Peak is pretty damn snowy right now

I'm a pass holder & have been for years. I never spend any money at the mountain & it has nothing to do with the Dew Tour or any other decisions the mountain makes. I think I bought one round of beers for my friends last year otherwise they get zip out of me besides the cost of the pass. And yes I pride myself on this fact.

don't have many beer drinking friends?

Here is the list of closed snowmaking trails that have pitch to them:
Double Dipper
Downdraft
Ovation
Vertigo
Upper Dream Maker (the interesting part)
Devils Fiddle

They're blowing Conclusion now but that will be roped off for the KMS bumpers and 'A' junior bumpers

The Dew Tour diverted about 50% of their compressor capacity for 2+ weeks. It will be February before Killington manages to get the entire snowmaking part of the mountain open and you know they're not going to blow much base on the double blacks since they're so far behind. If you've shelled out $1,100 for a season pass, you kind of look at this and question why Killington didn't add compressors and/or fan guns at Bear dedicated to the Dew Tour event.

I believe there is one year left on their Dew Tour contract. I certainly hope Killington opts out after next year. The current management is from the west and has never experienced slow starts to a season and January thaws. You don't want to jeopardize a $50 million business for a 3 day event and that's exactly what they've done. Every one of these management mistakes pushes customers to other mountains. Skier visits are already way off and this is making matters worse.

Adding to Geoff's post, and then you have a number of other important runs that need snowmaking and aren't open yet:

Lower GE - There are a number of "trailside" homes that are useless because of this, there is a nice expensive gondola, lodge, and significant parking that they need open that isn't. (as well as what is pretty much the best beginner trail on the mountain, and a significant part of why many people come to K).

Sundog + Falls Brook/Bear Cub - There's a large body of trailside condo owners that can't ski because of it, and none of the South Ridge area can open (if some natural snow falls) until this opens.

So at the moment, 100% of the ski-on, ski-off housing stock besides the Grand, is completely inaccessible and requires significant driving instead to get to the mountain. I'm sure the owners there must be quite annoyed, I'd be canceling my reservation or demanding a lot of $ off as a guest. Also, this is ALL of the housing stock on the side of the mountain near the Dew tour.

Needles Eye (lower) - The widest trail in the area, sees heavy traffic that's now winding up on an already overcrowded beginner run + other nearby runs.

Frolic - You can't get to Vagabond, and it's one of the main routes to get back to Rams Head.

Blue Heaven - Peak is overcrowded as it is, a lot of traffic heading toward Bear/Skye goes down this instead of the beginner trail at the top, making it less dangerous.

And the trail count isn't even as rosy as it looks. A bunch of the trails have very thin base depth, and a bunch of the currently open snowmaking runs are open on natural that isn't likely to hold up for long in weekend crowds.

More than not having certain trails open, not having slopeside units accessible is a huge problem. They won't lose the owners of those units as they're very difficult to sell in this market, but they'll probably lose some rental business, especially to their neighbors to the south that have such a great on mountain lodging program.

If I still had a pass at the Big K I wouldn't be happy either with the amount of snow needed for the tour. I was pissed at Mount Snow until I learned the two ssytems weren't connected.

It's been pretty annoying over the last few weeks.

Wish they were setup for it better, more earthworks before hand for the jumps just as on a dedicated park trail (like potentially lower wildfire), and a better pipe location. That would solve most of the problems.
