Does anyone have any thoughts on what February Vacation Week from the 18th to 22nd will be like at Killington? I'm debating between K and Sunday River, Based on the lack of crowds at K most of this season and Maine school vacation being the same week, I'm thinking Vermont may be a better choice. Anyone have any history over the last few years at to what it is like during this week?

Are you married to the idea of either K or Sunday River? If it were up to me I'd do Sugarbush or Stowe. K will be a madhouse. NY schools are off.

For a trip of more than a couple of days, during one of the busiest weeks of the year, you'd be crazy not to go an hour or two further north to Sugarbush or even Jay. You'll make up the time just in less time spent in lift lines, not to mention a more pleasant time when you get on the trails themselves.

We'll be at Jay which will be crowded enough I'm sure. Last year we skied at Mont Sainte Anne President's week and never expereinced a line nor a crowded run.

I would keep driving north from K. Seems like just about every school in the Northeast U.S. is off that week.

I'd say most places will be madhouses. I'm skiing the 14th and 15th at Killington, and then am probably going to go somewhere less likely to be crowded for the weekend.

I didn't know about CT and NY both being off the same week. That is definitely good information that could change my decision.

I did a 1 day trip to K on the Wednesday of last year's Feb break with another Mom and 5 kids between us thinking by mid-week, it wouldn't be so bad (hoping families that were there for the week would find something else to do for the day).

It was wall to wall people in the lodge (mostly of the kid variety with a few harried parents thrown in), not too bad on the slopes. Lift lines were hit or miss - crowded one run, short the next.

But they DID give out free Ben & Jerry's at 3pm!

I have been going to K every year on winter break with my kids for the past 10 years and i have to say, its usually not too bad. Yes the lodges are crazy but if you stay away from them at lunchtime its ok. The lifts have some lines but not bad. we usually stay over by Bear and the Canyons and there are never any lines. Even when we venture back over to Rams Head its never been more than 10 minutes. I have to say that i dont think we are going back this year. I just cant swing the 180 bucks a day for my 10 yr old to do ski camp. Still trying to talk DADDY into coming with us and skiing with her while i ski with the 14 yr old. I wish the husband would be as crazy about skiing as we are.

As far as the crowds at K go I would bet they are much less then past years.....Its been that way all year.

exactly. I was going to say the same thing. much more value without the crowds this year imo. but everyone should not go to K, it'll be way too crowded.

That was my thought as well AllSkiing. I've been up a few days midweek and cannot believe how empty it has been. So I was figuring that since K has chased away alot it wouldn't be too bad given that it is kids break for so many. I'm still undecided as to what to do. Thinking about going to a less popular place to try to avoid the real crowds. I just need to make up my mind and book something.
