Liftline was due to the fact that people had to click in between the RFID gates and chair, result was most chairs went up with only a couple people. Made for a better experience on the hill, crowd was in the lift line rather than catching breath at top or side of the trial. Always thought they would be better off loading every second chair when it is down to SS only; lift has too much capacity on busy days for one trail.

And to add to that the lift line diminished pretty quickly with people stopping after a run or two. After 10:30 the wait was down to just allowing a few groups of people to get their skis on in front of you.

This year proved to me that it is impossible and a fools errand to comment on when Superstar will melt out without having detailed depth info on full length of trail.

This years last day looked to be very good as far as last days - and June 1st's go. When there are many bare/walking sections like in years past, to me, that doesn't;t count. Otherwise all Magic needs to do is spin Green today and call their patch skiing (for a great cause by the way!) the last day of east coast skiing......

Their new groomer tech that lets them know what the snow depth under the groomer is was a game changer.

For sure and they could probably use that tech to better understand how to manage the snow to always last until June. If they collected the data on how quickly the snow melts in certain spots they could better focus on what areas of the trail to stockpile reserves. Instead of blanketing the whole trail with a 15 foot base, maybe you focus on blowing really deep on the areas that get the most shade in the spring as reserve snow to push out and cover the gaps.

Perhaps they are doing this already. I have to admit that looking at the webcam on Wednesday, I thought there was no way they'd get that wide of a ttb product for June 1st. So, they clearly had the stockpiles they needed to make it happen.

Not that it's either here nor there but this isn't overly new technology. The Dartmouth skiway has had it for going on a decade now, used primarily for their two race venues to determine proper depth.

I'm still blown away they made June. One of the times I'm glad I was wrong. Thank god for dry days and cold nights.

Yea...somewhat surprising this is something "new" to K. I know a number of resorts have had this for a while.

And yes, K was definitely helped by mother nature in May this year. I'm happy to see they made it to June, but a good portion of that was luck with the weather in May.

If they're using Snowsat, that's a Pisten Bully product that may have only recently had the snow depth tech adapted to Prinoth cats, and I'm pretty sure Killington is largely a Prinoth mountain. The machine tracking systems have been available to retrofit onto Prinoth for at least a few years, but I have no idea about the snow depth part. I think Prinoth has their own equivalent system now which may have only been recently released to begin with.

I noticed a few pisten bully cats sitting at the cat garage when I was up there in February.

But yes they are largely a prinoth mountain.

I declare SS skiable with 5-breaks. I suspect if Killington had opened today (Sun., Jun. 4) at least one of the breaks could have been groomed out.

Lol, get a grip Josh. Given the forecast, the cost involved in patching something together (have you looked at diesel fuel prices still?) and virtual zero marketing benefit going past June 1st; Killington absolutely made the right call ending the season on Thursday.

I mean maybe they would have gone for it if it looked like it does now on Wednesday and they wanted to claim a June 1st opening, but I kinda doubt it. People were pretty thrilled with making it to Memorial Day and few would have complained had they pulled the plug on Monday. Perhaps you may have complained though.

And at 9:55, if you really want to keep score, I count 5 breaks before you even reach the top of Preston's. Even in your picture there were three full breaks across the trail where you have marked #4.

Nice Sunday morning troll job though. I'll give you that.

You're just not a serious late season skier. No trolling.

Check out the photo of Memorial Day 2016 (when they were open).

Lol. Okay, if you aren't trolling Josh then you are demonstrating one of two things.

1. An inability to properly read a forecast

Or

2. You have zero business acumen

It made absolutely zero sense to go beyond Thursday, June 1st. None. The marketing goal was achieved and they delivered an absolutely stellar final day to their customers. They owed nothing else

And no, I'm not a serious late season skier like I once was. Except for a few May trips to Jay I gave up on caring about anything past May 1st nearly 20 years ago when I moved beyond two hours from the nearest open areas late season. Not worth it to me to travel so far for one trail. And since 2020 when I got my boat and slip on Winnipesaukee, as soon as it goes in for the season, that's where my attention turns. That was middle of April this year.

But good for you that you are a "serious" late season skier. Do you want to trophy? Why aren't you at Killington today hiking for turns if it means so much to you?

I didn't forget that it's a skiing forum. Skiing is a business, not a charity. The right business decision was for the mountain to close on Thursday when they did. Even that's debatable based upon the cost it took. But, good on K for gifting their diehards one more day.

What point are you still trying to make?

I was certainly there that day. And the 15rh if I remember correctly. I'll look for pics, but might be a tough task. It was still ttb on the 15th I think.
I know it was TTB on the 6th that year. I got married on June 7th, 1997 and don't ask me how I was "allowed" to pull it off, but skied Superstar 1st thing on the 6th, drove down to Foxboro, MA, where my wife and I got married, by 2:30, made the rehearsal ceremony and dinner on time, got married the next day, flew to Hawaii for an almost 2 week honeymoon, got back to Boston on the 21st, and my still to this day almost 26yrs later wife, "almost" was going to allow me to drive up and ski Superstar on that latest closing day ever for them!

My wife totally gets and accepts both my skiing and golf addictions and now doesn't question my at times borderline insanity level approach to each! 🀣🀣
