Impressive job looking at the webcam this morning. We will see what happens with another 85+ degree day and skiers on it, but I'll admit that I didn't think producing that wide of a top to bottom product was going to be possible with how things looked by the end of yesterday.

It seems to me, that this year they have actually been more aggressive with their late season grooming efforts and pushing of the snow around than in years past. If my memory recalls correctly (and I could be way off base for sure) that historically there have been many days towards the end of the season where they didn't put a cat on Superstar before 1st chair, and it seems like every day this May they have done that. Whether or not that is as I remember it and if so if that was one of the many variables that lined up to get them to a lift served June 1st this years, who knows??

The mountain ops team at K for about the 1001st time does what at times seems impossible and shows the doubters a thing or 2! Hats off to that amazing team!

Grabbed this at like 9:05 right after the first skiers finished their runs.

Be interesting to see how vastly different it looks at last chair.

Based on what they are showing on the web cam right now (3;12 PM),... it looks like they could open tomorrow.

Nice job to the grooming team at K for pulling it together!

Joshua may have blinders on for all topics Vail but he has consistently been correct on all topics Killington this spring. When others were talking a mothers day close, he was talking Memorial day and June. It is not possible to comprehend the durability and extent of the yellow ice layer from the webcam. The bottom is getting thin but nothing new for K in spring, there was no dirt showing on the top when I left shortly after noon, the middle was spectacular well placed soft bumps. Everywhere you turned today, you heard 'best closing in memory'. They could absolutely get it open for another day or more but why bother for tomorrow only; then showers and 50s are forecast for every subsequent day.

Other than the very bottom it looks like the coverage held up remarkably well. Remember checking towards closing in years past and seeing mostly grass with patches of snow by the time the end of the day came.

Hopefully about 4 months and change until the guns fire again.

They did a great job moving snow and the skiing was great today! Vastly improved over last year’s June closing day which looked like this: IMG_1637.png

Right where I want to be
I have gone on June 1st or later for the last 4 years and today had the best coverage out of all 4 years. While only the last 100 yards to the lift had no snow. The head wall was great with no rocks poking through or walking involved.
I was a little disappointed that no June β€˜23 shirts were handed out.

Had the same thought. Suspect printing t shirts takes time and K did not think they had a chance at June.
Same thought. I could tell by the wording of their mountain report after Memorial Day this year vs last year that this was pretty doubtful where last year it had a much more confident tone about it.

Wow! What an amazing closing day, thanks for sharing these photos. The conditions looked great considering it was June 1st.
