So here are more details.

They entered terrain "off of Great Northern near Killink," which are two runs on the far edge of looker's right at the Killington Ski Resort. That same person noted that the group had directions to find their way out of the terrain, but that he believed search and rescue was called due to the size of the group and the number of children involved.

It mentions there was a "Ski instructor" of 6 years with them but I believe he was just with the party and not leading the party since it didn't mention that yet. Possible chance he doesn't work for Killington itself.

That 5 mile Hike is to get them is due to the Launch point for retrieval of the lost party. Wish they would show where they were actually Found.

Has Video of Hike out with Rescue.

weird. if they entered at great northern x killink, they entered the woods well lower than coopers.

X is where that says they left the resort. O is coopers.

either spot you aint gettin back to the resort if you ski off to the north or the west. i just have never even noticed a way out over there. like when you are skiing that bit of great northern, skier's left is like a thick wall of trees that seem to go uphill...

How cute. A TikTok video of their rescue. (n)

Send them the bill for the rescue.

According to killingtonzone there was an instructor with 3, 5 year olds from the Woodward program and the instructor has been fired and kicked out of employee housing.

the flume run-out ALWAYS sucks. especially the very end if youre trying to keep speed to get back to supe
I'm the last person that would want to see a natural trail become not so, and the top 2/3rds of the trail is fine, but I really wish they'd drag a couple guns from the bottom of Lower O and groom up to the bottom of Juanita or so. It's a big buzzkill to ski some of the best glades in the east and then have to pop out onto a total mess of a runout. A nice smooth run back to either K1 or Superstar would be nice.

I see K-Zone has noted it for today, but the lifts were atrocious today. It sucks not having Canyon Quad open on Mondays anymore (and the report last night said Bear Quad would be open today but I knew better). Superstar was down a good chunk of the morning. Skyeship was down when I was coming out of Bear so had so Northbrook it out because Needles Eye has apparently been down all winter. The bubble was running like total shit...constantly stopping and running super slow it felt like. Not a huge deal today because it was dead, but hope they were just having a bad day and it's not something that's becoming a bigger problem.

One last thing, I will say the natural base coverage is impressive pretty much resort wide. Not a lot to worry about in the woods as far as rocks. Expected a lot less on the ground. Now if we can get some soft snow to actually stick to that base we would really be in business. This week's storm doesn't look like it will help at all in that regard.

Besides not working at that moment I believe Outside looking in that.

IF it is not a random meeting of 2 large groups of people The whole group size and make up seems that it looks like more then one "family group" that knew each other on a outing. Possibly bringing along outside family friends children.

If you don't hear of any Family's raising hell then the Family adults/friends were in the groups with the Children and kids

True, but I would not expect a 3-year old to be skiing backcountry.....

What makes you say that? One of the people supposedly in the group that was lost specifically said the instructor was working and had 2 kids with her.

i wonder if maybe they went into that wooded area right near the top of the snowdon triple. its not a glade really, just some woods where you can pee or have a smoke. but if you keep going in those woods you wind up 'behind' killink before it meets great northern

There are a few oddities in the Grouping. How does a Instructor with 2 kids grow into 20plus with 6children lol. People must of had to know each other

I am thinking looking at the Topography that they "weren't" planning on getting back to the lifts easily or at all and were on a Sidecountry/Back country tour that went tooo TOURY.

There was a tree skiing camp at K call it 15 years ago. I thought about it because I'm thinking "I'll never loose another ski - off". But with lodging it was like $2,000ish. It would take a few ski - off wins to make that back. Also, you had to have a helmet. ๐Ÿ’š

Someone posted that the instructor was not working. And I donโ€™t know many 3-year olds skiing in the backcountry with an instructor (assuming that the age is accurate)

Whether some people knew each other or just followed the instructor or whatever is irrelevant... I'll agree the instructor was almost certainly not leading the entire group. But that doesn't change the claim made that she was there and working. If she was paid and had 2 kids with her that she was teaching, that's all that matters.

Was that person actually there or just speculating? Because I saw a post from someone who said they were in the group that was lost that specifically said an instructor was there working with a couple kids. As for the 3-year old...I don't think it was a 3yo. I think that particular comment was meant to be "3 5 year olds" (as in 3 kids that were 5 years old). Sure the comment I saw could be made-up BS, but hard to believe someone would lie about being in the group (that same person provided some pretty specific details about where they entered, etc before that was mentioned in any news articles).

Lucky no one got hurt. At least haven't heard of any. Good question, is it okay to bring a toddler in deep and frozen woods?

If you do maybe know where you're going.๐Ÿ„

Iโ€™m as confused as you as to what actually went down.
