At killington. Not a shitshow. Suprrstar was down so k1 and snowdon got busy at like 11 so I just went to bear where it was ski on. Windbuffed smooth on closed devil fiddle. Great gunpowder on OL. All trees firing. Itโ€™s a great day. Going back to superstar now that itโ€™s running to ski somewhere nowhere Juanita julio
Well in that case, pretty excited for tomorrow!

Pico was pretty good in the woods (which I only really took one run in for some reason today) and on the groomers (which it was way to cold to ski on) but the ungroomed nats (which I spent the most time on because I'm a glutton) were bulletproof with sections of deep drifty snow. It was my first time at Pico midwinter so I made sure to take runs on things like Giant Killer and Poma Line which were pretty ugly. Ka Glades very fun. Summit Glades absolutely awful. Wind actually started picking up around 2:00 so I called it a day around 2:30 and headed off to watch football. Tomorrow will be at K and focusing on woods and maybe OL if the guns are still running dry.

Staying at the Rutland Comfort Inn for the first time which feels like the Ritz Carlton compared to the rest of the shitholes in this town.

Poma line is one of the tougher runs I've ever skied in New England. Crazy narrow and with the dust on crust surface it was a bit frightening. The woods to the left were fantastic. I was afraid to get out too far to the left but what I found was still really good.

Ka Glades were really in nice shape and a really long run if you connect the sections together. Probably a solid 1200 vert glade. Really lappable.

Some wind blown powder on Upper Giant Killer surrounded by ugly patches of hardpack. Nats down low were even worse. Little Pico was a one and done. Woods are the place to be.

Awesome pics. I miss Pico.

Was at a frigid Killington today and heard about it on the chairlift. Glad everyone is safe. How does a ski instructor with years of experience lead a huge group of people 5 miles off course ? Doesnโ€™t make sense. Was this a guided backcountry trip ? Didnโ€™t anyone have a phone with a gps tracker / ski tracks / slopes / etc

Hope the ski instructor was fired.

Was at Pico yesterday 1/20, and Killington today 1/21.

Pico yesterday was a delight even with the frigid temps, everything skied well except for the upper mountain naturals which were pretty windblown down to hardpack. Lower mountain nats were fantastic though holding tons of soft snow. Knomes knoll ran for the first time all season and had lots of deep powder. It snowed all day adding an extra 2" or so. Always love Pico, one of the best place in all New England to ski natural snow trails.

Killington today was very windblown, Lots of lifts on hold including Skyeship stage 2, Superstar, Canyon. The Bear side was more sheltered and the place to be, especially Outer Limits. Outer Limits was absolutely fantastic, I don't think I have ever skied so fast and hard on a trail so steep. The fresh snowmaking snow was deep and consistent, it gave you so much confidence to just attack the entire trail. Also found some good pockets of fresh snow in the stash and south ridge. Finished the day taking Solitude for my first time ever, Today was a good day to try it, beautiful slow natural run through the wilderness, with limited skating needed.

Yeah Solitude was nice today, very sheltered and peaceful after dodging a lot of wind-blown boilerplate

Also if you manage to go off the backside from Coopers Cabin you are a moron. There is a sign saying exactly what will happen and its not hard to tell that once you go over that ridgeline you wont make it back to the resort

Outer limits gun powder def had me opening up the throttle in a way Iโ€™ve never done in OL before. Did it 3 or 4 times. So good

Yea...something is off there. Justifying getting lost because a ski instructor was part of the group doesn't make things any better.

It says that he was included in the group but not leading the group so the instructor was probably off the clock. Yโ€™all might want to read that fine print before busting out yer pitchforks.

I mean if hes been working at the mountain for years he should know how not to end up miles outside the resort needing rescue

That will make for an awkward morning the next time he goes back to work at the ski school.

"So, what did you do over the weekend? Oh, right......"

Poma Line is the gnarliest thing I've skied back East, hands down. Super fun. I've done it with low snowpack skiing against the cable!
Definitely didn't see a cable today. Either the snowpack is deeper than I think it is (unlikely) or they finally got it out of there.
