I think the WC base takes longer to melt out than regular man made snow. I'm optimistic for a faster early season trail rollout without the wc

Yes, but I would expect the rollout to go from North Ridge to Snowdon, K peak and Ramshead. If they are working on SS, they will likely hold off on linking in that pod. May drop down South Ridge earlier to link to the rest of Skye Peak.

Hey, gonna be at Pico Sunday. How're the woods skier's left of giant killer? i don't wanna get lost yk
The cut for the old Summit Poma is further left than UGK, so as long as you don't cross beyond that you certainly don't have to worry about any risks of getting lost.

If you're going significantly beyond the Poma cut, no real experience but it's probably at least slightly plausible if you kept tracking further and further left to wind up dumping yourself into a drainage that will take you further away from the resort + not bring you back.

I don't think it's that "natural" of a mistake to make if you're aware you need to come back to the right around halfway down, but you should look over the topo/Google Earth view to have a feel for it and keep an eye on your location if you are venturing out there.

(Also, down further, Poma Woods is quite a bit larger than the map makes it look.)

The DD's in the canyon are lit back up! Gonna be a fun spring, skiing the canyon and tailgating in Bay 1 and K1 deck instead of umbrella bar!

Enjoyed the Big K yesterday but man someone switched the fan on again and it was COLD. They did have snow guns working up on North Ridge beefing up the trails for spring (nice sun but anything but spring yesterday)

Killington posted some cool scans of snow depth on their facebook page (appears to be a typo for the black color, should be greater than 9 feet, not less than 9 feet)

Here's your Sunday snowmaking update. Check out our grooming scans showing our snow depths using Leica technology with Prinoth Snow Groomers

Scan #1: Snow depths on Great Northern from the top of the K-1 Gondola range from 3-5' on average as shown by green and blue coloring. Our snowmaking team will be hitting this section of trail to build more base.

Scan #2: Double Dipper and Downdraft are in great shape for spring skiing thanks to recent efforts from our snowmaking team. Snow depths are greater than 8' as shown by purple and black coloring. Some areas are showing 15' of base!

Our snowmaking team will be back on the top section of Great Northern tonight to build up spring snow depths from the summit of the K-1 Gondola down to the bottom of the North Ridge Quad through Tuesday. As a result, the K-1 Gondola and Peak Lodge will be closed on Monday, as conditions will be challenging for skiing and spinning the lift during snowmaking operations. We expect both to reopen on Tuesday.

Conditions are fantastic and spring skiing is shaping up nicely at The Beast!

Pico has some of the best glades i've ever been in. The whole mountain was a massive choose your own adventure experience. Very cool. I rode the poma line down from the top and was fortunate to be only the second person to do so that day. The few inches from the night before held up very well. I would have been fcked without it. Has anyone dippped into the woods left of the poma line? I looked in but couldnt see past 20 feet or so and being alone i didnt want to risk it. What did I miss?

I think their glades are very under-rated. I loved all the ones I explored last year.

once. you just dont wanna stray too far skier's left. i didnt stray far off the lift line because i wasnt sure how far i could go but it basically boops you out into poma woods.

i dont think ive ever been there when outpost chair has actually run, but the little 3 minute hike has yielded me untouched lines deep into weekend days in the past, so keep the lift closed, im good

The outpost lift was kind of running and I got 3 or 4 trips up before I felt like I was pressing my luck and rode off. The terrain over there felt like a mini Tenney. The lifts were a bit of a problem in the morning and caused some big backups. Thankfully it was ok after lunch and we had a surprise powder afternoon.

Almost everything there seemed bang average. The skiers, the kids taking lessons, the pub, the bathrooms ripped out of Belmont Park, the way everyone dressed etc....However, the terrain really was the star imo.

Saturday was crazy crowded, parking on the bear access rd a little after 9. There was even a liftline in the canyon . It started dumping after lunch and the crowds thined out and conditions went from good to great. Sunday was empty It was cold but not too bad skiing was still good. I'm looking forward to a great spring in the canyon
