Kind of weird they‘re adding snowmaking to Carpenters Run. I’m guessing it’s the stretch between Home Stretch and Great Eastern. My interpretation is they plan on making snow on Home Stretch again. Nyberg shut that down about 10 years ago. Homeowners were not pleased. It’s also possible it’s just to move more water out of the Ottauquechee, they recently did repairs on that source.

I’m guessing the opposite, I think they will put the snowmaking on the top of Carpenters Run, between the gondola midstation and Home Stretch. Without that segment open there is no way to lap to first stage of the gondola, or to go directly down to the Skyeship lot from the Jerk Shack or from Snowshed.

But it's kinda a necessary evil being the only way out of Northbrook not on a chair. It usually holds snow really well due to being flat as a board, they could mean they replaced 900' of the Bear to Snowshed (Woodward) feed that goes through the woods alongside Carpenters. Guess we'll see this winter.

I'm sure the homeowners along Home Stretch wouldn't mind that trail getting some attention if it's a low tide year. They did say they trimmed it back...

Regarding Skyeship, I think it’s a mistake to set a firm date for opening. It’s low elevation: if there’s a cold snap, jump on it; if there isn’t, wait. The years when they’ve gone by “the schedule“ have been tedious; K3000s spitting slush. The towers they’ve added on Great Eastern should allow them to be much more nimble in that regard.

I agree. Especially with the plans of building a new restaurant at the Jerk Shack. Having an easy way to get down from there without going back up is essential. Basically if there is snowmaking on Carpenter's you can end the day at Jerk Shack and then ski back down to Route 4 without going back up. From a financial point of view Killington can recoup the cost of the snowmaking pipes in late beer sales at the Jerk Shack.

"Late December" doesn't seem very firm? There are still tons of hydrants without fixed equipment in the middle section and in total it's like over a 100 hydrant sets that need hoses. So not a quick pivot by any means.

I mean, they could run Stage 1 as a transport lift without skiing, right? It may create a bottleneck at closing time, but it would allow another way out of the resort and bring the parking into play even if they don't have snow to the bottom.

Somehow, despite spending seven seasons at Killington, I don't think I ever skied Carpenter's Run.

I've never skied it on purpose. But one powder day about 15 years ago the whole Needles area was on windhold until about 2:00. When it reopened I went and played there for the rest of the day but one run I got to the bottom and everything was back to wind hold except Northbrook. I was parked on Rt 4 so off I went down Carpenters Run on a powder day. Very fun

If you get a good head of steam it's definitely better but I wouldn't want to start from a dead stop. Definitely more of an emergency route out of there. I took it two seasons ago when Needle's was down for the failed drive and Skyeship's cabins were all busted and Route 4 was loading pretty heavily.

Well, if they intend to make snow on it, make it super wet and groom it very soon after the make. They know how to make a World Cup surface, and Carpenter's could certainly use that
