Anyone else just realize the season is starting to wind down? I mean for me, I'm probably done in just 5-6 weeks. Perhaps it's a combination of the fact that most of the snowpack in my area is gone, an early DST change, and that I just got back from the big season trip that I'm feeling like this. Anything else for me will be a day trip or a quick overnight.

I know, I know. Plenty of great skiing left, but I just can't help but feel a bit sad that it'll be over before you know it. Had/having a great season and I just don't want to see it end. I'm on track to log 9 or 10 days in March, and I hope to grab at least 4 or 5 in April, and maybe one in May if things line up, but it's like the end of the road is now in sight. Anyone else feeling a bit melancholy?

Oh, and guys like riverc0il: no need to reply here.... ;)

I actually was discussing this with my wife earlier today. We just got back from a great trip out west and still have skiing ahead of us. This past summer I started biking on a regular basis again and when skiing is over, I'll be looking forward to the biking. So for the first time, no I don't feel too bad about it.

the melting snow in my yard, and seeing dirt patches at sunday river today pretty much ruined my weekend!! not really, but this season only started getting good in mid february so its depressing to think about it ending so soon.

C'mon, I can be melancholy too! June is not that far off! :D

I was hoping for July. Hmmm... Oct. to July, that doesn't sound too bad.

Once the auto road opens I plan on being up there basically every weekend, then after that a few days on the patch in Tucks just to finish it off.

I only have 21 days this season so far and plan on going over 40. It is no where close to over. :-D

At this point, given low snowfall this season, I wouldn't even count on late June let alone July. However, it is still very early and a lot of things can happen between now and then to dictate how things setup. Ideally, a lot of things will include more snow.

Ideally April/May 1997

I'm staying optimistic. But seriously it seems like April-June temps matter more than the amount of snow on the ground (based on no facts whatsoever). When did the snow melt out last year? Right now the bowl area has a deeper base than it ever did last year (based on a rock sticking out in the middle last year vs. no rock this year. Very scientific )

One thing we don't have this year though is a base on the upper snow fields. Last year the 34 inch sleet storm plus the 3 ft. snowicane created a wicked base. From the looks of it they are pretty sad this year. As much as I love hiking 3 miles downhill with skis on my back I think I could deal with driving down a few times.

its a nice change, once skiing is over I can hit up the road on my bike. Went out for a nice ride today actually, trying to get in cycling shape once again.

biking goes pretty well with skiing, they tend not to overlap to much. unless your one of those crazy people who bike in the winter :p

The bike season never ends, but now that I've got back into skiing, I don't want that season to end either. I'll be out in Oregon the first two weeks of July and may try to ski for a day. It's a mountain biking trip.

If weather holds regular season will end 4/15 and a few of us are trying to set up a couple weekend trips to killington/who evers open.Since i am unemployed, skiing almost everyday gave me the ability to NOT dwell on what i am going to do with my life.So i really hope to extend this untill late may.

I wish I did have several more days planned...unfortunately, between spring sports, April vacation, and overall family lack of interest, I have yet to ski into April.

I could (and have) gone into late season melancholy about this, but I have plans this season to get into biking, do a lot more hiking, take a family overnight camping trip, etc.. Looking forward to these activities is keeping me from looking back and getting bummed out.

Still trying to get another 20 days in. I see the end, but not worring about it. I love getting out in the spring. I have at least 6 more days off planned to ski, plus weekends.

My season's not over until there's not enough snow on upper mountain at Sugarbush to hike it! I'll probably be making turns till the second week of May or so. Maybe later... we'll see!

After the heavy rains in Stowe Sat night and then the temps hovering in the low 40s overnight, my winter morale took a big hit. To think that if it stops here (the snow and cold), then we would've had only one month of winter in the NE - to think of that is just too depressing, even if I do have mtb and other spring activities to do.

Praying for snow and cold...

I do feel a bit sad that the season is passing on so quickly and I did not manage to get out west, but just like Quatro, I took inventory of my wetsuits, fins, leashes, etc. (bodyboarding), getting ready to hit the waves. Soon, the ocean temps will hit 40 F which is the beginning of my wave riding season.

I think I need a warm-weather hobby that I can be equally passionate about as skiing. I've hiked quite a bit in my life which is the only thing that comes close. Mountain biking is fun too, but neither are quite as addictive as skiing.

Hear you there...

I remember having a discussion with my parents (who live in FL) about skiing vs. golf expenses and telling them "you spend a lot more on equipment, club membership, etc. than I do on skiing". Their response was "yes, but we can golf 12 months out of the year...how many months can you go skiing?"

Not that I'd be interested in taking up golf by any means, but I'd have to say that it's difficult being nuts about an activity that, unless you are really hard-core, you can only do for a few months out of the year.
