Created in Europe for sure.

  • Ever wonder where all the single chairlifts are in the world? there are still a boatload in Europe.

  • I never knew about 8-seaters. None in the USA, but Austria seems to love them.
  • How about all the lifts under construction in the world?
  • Hey! We got a new lift at Cannon. It's called the "Pee Body"
  • Collection of "Ropeway incidents" The Solden accident is freakin; mega-scary.
  • Those funitel construction photos are impressive. That is one helluva a working environment.

Yeah, they may have missed a few, but there sure are a lot of lifts out there. Great way to waste a lot of time!

Sölden (Austria): Cable car accident kills nine passengers

On Monday 2005-09-05 at about 1 p.m. an accident happened on the glacier Rettenbach, in the area „Innere Schwarze-Schneid-Bahn“.

A helicopter which transported a container filled with concrete lost it during the flight. The container fell on a cabin and due to strong vibrations passengers in two other cabins were catapulted off. At the moment of accident, there were 35 persons in 6 different cars. 3 cars were affected by the fall of the container. 9 persons were killed and other 6 persons were seriousely hurt by this accident! The casualties were taken to the hospitals in Innsbruck and Zams. The nationalities of the casualties are established! Already a few minutes after the accident, the rescue started. 150 persons and 6 helicopters were employed. The rescue campaign finished at 4 p.m..

Interesting, when I was in Kitsbuhl Aut (sp?) back in the early 90's they had several singles. Didn't see any listed there.

There's a lot they have not counted up yet. It's a hobby for these guys. I didn't realize how big a job it was. Why not consider contributing info to them on your favorite resorts?

Indeed, but skilifts.org is North American-centric. I find the European and other lifts to be more dramatic and more technically challenging installations.

This is the first place where I have seen a really comprehensive, worldwide database. Impressive even if it is an ongoing project.

Thing that strikes me. For a year in which there was a world wide recession, a crap load of new lifts were constructed in 2009.

This site is awesome. I love skilifts.org, but this has soooo much more. I could have wasted the whole day at work browsing...
