Locals still anticipate more north country snow

It was an interesting weekend, chatting with a lot of folks since the conditions were optimal for sun and brew on the deck. The consensus among the locals, even those hopeful for spring who live in Burlington is that Mother Nature still has a couple of storms in store for us. This is based entirely on historical experience.

The 5" yesterday in the Greens was a good case in point. 2 days prior, nothing forecast. 1 day prior it was forecast as flurries and at a point, transitioning to rain. So I see rain in the forecast for Thursday. We'll see. I'll keep the snow tires on and the skis in the car for now. Have to get to work and later get the salt washed off the car from yesterday's nothing precip

Oh, and Powderfreak has been suspiciously quiet on the forecasting front all season.

In the 70's NNY had a freak blizzard on May 19th that caused us to move an outdoor college commencement ceremony . Not a little bit of snow either , it was a dumping heavy wet glop .

So yes old timer's here often joke about 10 months of winter and Two months of BAD SLEDDING

Mother's Day, my graduation from SMC in '96. Same deal. Snow pushed us in. Next day, 75 degrees and clear skies. Love Burlington.

Growing up in NH as a kid, there was one year (early to mid 90s) that we had a snow day in May, and I had to shovel the driveway in the morning. When I went back outside in the afternoon, it was 60 degrees and most of the snow had melted.

I remeber that one in 96 for sure----I'd gotten up at 4AM to go turkey hunting, looked outside then went right back to bed. We'd gotten 5ish inches of snow!!!

I don't remember an April where Stowe didn't receive at least one 6+ inch snowfall..usually they receive a few snowfalls..I'll be there Easter weekend..

We'll get a decent storm or two still. Maine seems to get that ncp strom that changes to snow late in the season.

as bad and spring like the weather had been the first 3 days I was up at stowe, the refresh we got on sunday went a long way to repairing the mountains. just amazing what a little snow in the right places could do.

now if the temps could remain steadily below freezing, it could last.
