I just posted this on a vintage computing forum, but thought I'd throw it on here too. Who knows, maybe one of you has one of these hiding in a basement, attic, closet, or garage!

I'm looking for a Gateway 2000 P4D-66. It was a 1993 or 94 machine, with an Intel 486DX-2 66mhz. I would love to find one in operable condition, but would be satisfied as long as the motherboard and AT power supply are good. I can replace most of the other components without problem.

I had one of those machines in the mid 90s, and loved it! I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it! I'd love to find one for all of my DOS and 16bit Win gaming. I've tried the concept of emulation on a newer machine, but it just doesn't feel the same! That Gateway rig was great. Loved the case design, the hardware selection, the bundled software, etc. I even still have the original media that came with it, so I could restore it to its original state with Win 3.11 and all the bundled programs. All I need is the computer!

If anyone has one, or has any idea (other than eBay... I check there frequently) of where to find one, I'd be very appreciative. I'm willing to pay a little for one, depending on condition.

Before they gave into the "2 year dispose & replace" society, Gateway 2000 produced some of the finest computers on the market. Now, a Gateway is no better than a cheapo PC you find at Wal-Mart. In fact, maybe you can even buy Gateways in Wal-Mart now? Oh well... this is the world we live in.

Up until recently I think I still had my Gateway of around the same vintage. It had a 486DX2-50, 8 meg of ram, and a 454 MB HDD. The ram and HDD was pretty big for the time IIRC. It also came with a 14" monitor, which was a step up from the standard of 13" at the time. We were too cheap to buy it with a sound card so I got a sweet 8 bit one from radio shack after a while.

Ah, the good old days..

I'm pretty sure my dad just got rid of it when he moved recently. :(

Well, if you find out he didn't trash it, let me know! A DX2-50 would be a close enough match. Although, I'd probably go out on a limb and move up to the ISA SoundBlaster 16!

Did your machine come with one of the awesome "AnyKey" 124 key programmable keyboards? I loved those!

YES, loved that keyboard as well! I had all sorts of macros programmed in, a bunch for doing stuff on local BBS's at the time, IIRC. Cruising along at 14.4kbps!

Sadly,I'm fairly certain it's gone. I really didn't want to part with it, but I had to get rid of some stuff. My dad wasn't too interested in moving and storing a bunch of crap for me that I wasn't ever going to use again...

Doom was sick with 8 bit sound! ;)

Shame. Oh well... I'll find one eventually!

It's funny, I actually bid on one of those Anykey keyboards tonight. Starting bid of $25... but it's totally worth it!
