Yeah . . . I say Smuggs, too . . .

I skied it for the first time last year (always thought it was a wussy kids mountain before), and I realized that the terrain there was S-I-C-K for experts with lots of glade options.

Jay doesn't have good groomers and can occasionally have moderate crowds. Given the "moderate" budget of $2700 for three days and three nights for six people... I would put Stowe on the table as an option. Smuggs has the kids program cornered for sure. Never skied Smuggs but I would suspect Stowe has Smuggs beat in the variety of groomed terrain (naturally trees and expert terrain as well and separate area for beginners). You can likely swing a similar package for $3k or less at Stowe.

If you are looking for a great mountain with things to do other than skiing there are only a few choices.

Stowe has a great hill and a lot to do around a town

Whiteface has lake placid. Lots oh history you know the deal.

Killington is the wildest towns

Ranking as far as skiing
1/Stowe
2/Whiteface
3/Killington

dancing drinking
1/killington
2/ Tie

Interesting off hill act.
1/Whiteface
2/stowe

Smuggs is the place to go ...first off I'm a property owner so my take will be somewhat slanted. The time frame you pick is great just after the Mass, NY, Conn, RI vacation week which I would say Stay Away ..too many people, Will be NH & VT vacation week during the time frame you picked, but mid week you'll have the place to yourself. Weather wise late Feb early March is typically the best snow time.

Someone mentioned old school .. slow lifts ..YES ..but once you learn that it isn't how many verts you can do in a day, rather than how you come down the mountain, Smuggs is your place to go...one of the best from Glades, to expert to wide open slopes, Boarders will find it hard though being you have some long traversers between mtns...they're marked on the trail maps....but once you learn the mountain(s) they shouldn't be an issue.

Great family activities for 18 and under after skiing .... condos are well kept. On demand shuttle for units that are not near the lifts (which many are not)

You should look into going through a time share presentation ... you'll save some bucks on this stay. That is how I started many years ago and move up from 1 week to 2, to half year etc. My two kids love it both in summer and winter though winter has become a bit less with B Ball in school.

Bottom line, easy, hard or breath taking ...smuggs is the place to go

What you'll find after the first time ..after you leave your kids will ask when can they come back ..my suggestion is to look at staying a but longer

Kids Ages 11, 19, 21, and 22 years old. Smuggs fit there. Anywhere better?

Think about if you want to mix it up, or stay at one place the whole time.
Smuggs is self-contained, a lot like Sugarloaf.
Here's another spin: Sugarbush. The terrain can keep you busy for at least a couple of days, two different mountains, but you'd need the shuttle for interconnect midweek. It's got a pretty busy village area Waitsfield, Warren (you'd have to get in your car) for nightlife, shopping and dining. You could also mix up the skiing with Mad River Glen for a day (10 mins away), or even Stowe for a day(~45mins away). You can even daytrip it to Bolton or Middlebury.
Flatbread Pizza (my kids call it hippie pizza) is pretty cool. You might even get KingM to sign an autograph for you ;)

You never answered the question I asked about why you gravitated towards Smugglers. You will get better quality information if you state your preferences.

I dont think you could go wrong at Okemo for what you are looking for. My 2 cents but it is a great family ski place, decent terrain, great snow making, a enough night life to keep you happy.
