Okay, so I heard a rumor that in the coming years, Loon's gondola will be moved to Sugarloaf. Is this a joke? If it isn't a joke, where would they put it and what would they want with a gondi that's almost 25 years old? A replacement for the West Mountain chair, perhaps?
Thanks!

Rumors I read from another board was a lift to get to timberline that could be low and avoid wind, and access the bullwinkles cafe for dinner at night. i think I've heard something similar elsewhere.:p

Loon's Gondola will be 20 years old on July 4th and its in excellent shape too. If it is moved its likely to have many of its components rebuilt and even some modern upgrades before being re-installed.

That's interesting.....seems that Boyne is employing the same logic at SR: get a gondola to the midmountain lodge for more revenue (nonskiers and riders) and for offseason events.

I'm not a huge fan of gondolas because you have to take your skis off and they sometimes cram the maximum capacity and some guys have to sit with their legs real wide apart hogging the space..Gondolas are good for one purpose...safety meetings..

did you really say that?

Well if it's an 8 person Gondola with 4 people on each side..you need to sit a little more compact to accomadate everybody..some people hog alot of space..at bars it's like that as well..some people sit with their legs so freaking wide..

I also heard from a reliable source this could be a possiblity. I try and avoid the Loon gondola because of the lines, plus you have to remove your skiis. this would be a good solution with additional capacity with a choice of what type of lift to ride.

I have always loved the Loon Gondola so I would hate to see it go. I've never been there when it was on a wind hold so I don't know if its common. I can also sympathize with those who don't want to take thier ski's off. Too many lifts of my youth are going bye bye.
