Over 190 Acres and 13.5 Miles of Skiing & Riding for the Holidays
DECEMBER 22, 2011 - In the past week, Loon Mountain has more than doubled its open terrain, and expects to add more terrain for the upcoming weekend and holiday period. Loon currently offers the most open terrain in New Hampshire with 28 trails, 178 acres and over 12.5 miles of skiing & riding for all abilities. For this weekend, holiday guests will enjoy 60% of Loon's total trail acreage on 196 acres and over 13.5 miles. Snowmaking will continue at every opportunity to expand open terrain as quickly as possible.
Loon is able to expand terrain quickly thanks in large part to the addition of 600 highly-efficient tower snow guns in the past two years. Loon's snowmaking team has been taking full advantage of every window of cold weather to make snow whenever possible.
Throughout the holiday week, kids and families can look forward to a variety of activities at Loon. On Christmas Eve, the annual candlelight service, a non-denominational celebration of the holiday, will be held at the Governor's Base Lodge beginning at 7 p.m. On December 30, Andrew Pinard will be putting on a Magic Show for the kids in the Octagon Lodge at 4:30 p.m. and on December 31, Mo the Clown visits the Governor's Base Lodge from 1-4 p.m. The Loon Mountain Adventure Center will offer zipline, indoor climbing and ice skating (weather permitting) beginning on Monday.
New Year's revelers can ring in 2012 at the popular New Year's Eve Party in the Bunyan Room on December 31 - an annual favorite. 6 Foot Sunday, a group of five talented friends from Boston, kicks off the festivities at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $25 and attendees must be 21 years of age or older. Reservations are strongly recommended can be made by calling 603-745-6281 x5554 or stopping by the Bunyan Room.
On January 7, in conjunction with Loon Mountain's Annual Tele-Demo Day hosted by Village Ski and Sport shop at the Governor's Base Lodge area, Loon will be hosting a Telemark Skin and Ski Race on Lower Rumrunner, a first of its kind at Loon Mountain. Prizes will be awarded to top men and women competitors. Entry fee is $30 online and $35 on the day of the race.
The Bud Light Entertainment Series which features popular bands for six straight Saturdays kicks off on January 7 in the Bunyan Room with Paranoid Social Club. On January 14 P Town Funk Reggae continues the lineup, followed by Velourosaurus on the 21st and The Alchemystics on January 28th. Shows start at 8:30 PM and attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
In addition to Pipe Dreams on January 8, a snowboard only event where contestants compete in a rail jam format on snowmaking pipes, Loon will host a new event called the Greenhorn Games on January 21. Greenhorn Games, sponsored by GNU, is a 13 and under snowboard only contest. Registration for this event is $30. United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) will also hold two events at Loon in January. On January 22 snowboarders compete in a slopestyle format to earn points toward national competition and on January 29 USASA members will compete in a pipe event.
Independence Weekend, a popular annual event that celebrates Loon's snowmakers, returns to Loon over the weekend of January 14-16, 2012. The weekend features Uncle Sam on Stilts, family entertainment and rich winter traditions such as snowcat rides, a torchlight parade, fireworks show, and much more.
Women's Performance Camps, designed by women to cater to women who are comfortable on terrain ranging from blue square to double black diamond, are back for two weekends this winter; January 28-29 and March 10-11, 2012. The two-day sessions include over 15 hours of coaching by top women coaches, video analysis, targeted core conditioning to help reach peak performance and an apres ski get together. Each two-day session costs $219 and includes a lift ticket.
New England Passes, Frequent Skier Cards and Gift Cards are all available online at loonmtn.com and make great gifts for snowsports enthusiasts. The Frequent Skier Card, valid at Loon, Sunday River and Sugarloaf, costs $97 and includes a free lift ticket and up to $25 savings per day on lift tickets for the rest of the season.
