Loon was great today. We had a deliberate late start at about 1030 to let the sun loosen things up and recover from a long, late work week. We were not disappointed. Coverage was stellar (but not unexpected) due to their snowmaking prowess. The Nastar course is still running - did 5 runs and got progressively worse times as the sun softened and slowed things down. The Nastar course is somewhat lame, but that makes it super-challenging to get a good time. Terrain park was in great shape. Pretty much everything was in excellent spring shape. Most of the bumps were mowed down except for two mogul fields they've left alone. Loon is pretty much a cruiser's mountain right now. Place was a typical friday busy, setting up for the Mt. Dew race on Sat. portends crowds to descend that day.
It was warm and sunny all day, they layers kept being peeled off - I'd estimate temps were in the hi 40s by mid afternoon. A few gusts on top hit 50mph, but the gondi kept running, albeit at reduced speed.
Jamaican food at top of quad was outstanding as usual.
I wish Loon would extend their hours in the afternoon. closing by 4 seems almost draconian with the sun so high in the sky.
The offical close date for Loon is the 14th. They have easily 2 more weeks worth of snow melt ahead.
