Louis Garneau Course Race Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's
Let's face it, we ride and race in the age of aerodynamics. From wheels, to helmets, to frames, every aspect of drag is being minimized at a levels that would be considered exponential less than five years ago. However, as a maker of aero helmets, Louis Garneau asked itself why the benefits of drag reduction were concentrated at the external instead of being applied to apparel itself? Luckily, Garneau answered its own question, and the result is the Course Race Jersey.
Louis Garneau designed the Course Race jersey to be race piece, through and through. However, to achieve this lofty ambition, Garneau was forced to create a complex design that remains simple on the eyes. Easier said than done. So, three fabrics were used in its construction, along with a sophisticated material treatment. Starting at the body of the jersey, Garneau knew that the bulk of construction had to be lightweight, malleable, and breathable. This means that Mondo was the obvious choice for its composition. Made from a featherweight, multi-filament polyester, Mondo's knit is porous for breathability and for a high level of stretch that aids in both comfort and aerodynamics.
The jersey's aerodynamics have been further ensured by the shoulder and sleeve's Speedtech construction. As the name insinuates, this fabric is built for speed. It features a dimpled mesh design that's akin to the surfaces of aero helmets and golf balls. The reasoning behind this is simple -- between speeds of 15 and 45 mph, the dimples reduce drag at the forward most point of your body. Additionally, this aerodynamic trait has natural hydrophilic properties that assist in wicking away moisture. And even better, its 18% spandex content qualifies Speedtech as a certified compressive fabric. This means that your upper-body will be less susceptible to the volatile effects of road vibration and general fatigue.
And while the Course Race jersey has you covered for aerodynamics and material comfort, Garneau went to even greater lengths to fulfill the most cumbersome variable of comfort -- heat control. Sure, the aforementioned fabrics are breathable, but Garneau still added ventilation points on the side panels and under the arms. This area of the jersey has been made from the Mesh 1001 material for many reasons. First, it enhances the jersey's next-to-skin fit and comfort with its stretchable, microfiber composition. Second, it's been treated in order to wick moisture away rapidly. And lastly, it effectively regulates the internal temperature of the jersey at a natural core-ventilation point. Going a step beyond, Garneau also treated all of the jersey fabrics with its Coldblack finish. This finish permits the sun's heat to be reflected away from the jersey instead of absorbing it like most fabrics. So, you can ride on the rivet during summer races without running the risk of overheating.
To secure the fit of the Course Race jersey, Garneau has taken a multi-step approach. The shoulders have been pre-shaped for added in comfort within the cycling position. At the rear hem, Garneau placed a wide signature silicone gripper that prevents shift without adding any poignant compression. For the arms, Garneau lazer-finished the hems, not only for comfort, but for enhanced aerodynamics as well.
Garneau has also included three rear angled pockets for easy-access storage, and reflective accents to increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.
