plotting and scheming to see if we can swing a family trip to CO this winter. In searching for lodging in the Loveland/Keyston/Abasin area it seems to be all condos, can't locate hotels. Anyone familiar with the area that can point to a nearby town where hotels might be easier to find?

goal is to be close enough to the mountain to get back and forth but don't need to be slope side. 15/20 minute ride to mountain would be fine.

last time we did something like this we stayed in a hampton inn which worked out well for price + comfort.

FWIW Dillon has a few hotels (and a lot of condos), central to all the places you've listed. Hotels are likely to be pricey however... my own personal experience bang for the buck I've found UT obliterates CO...

Check the Frisco area. Not too far from A-basin but close enough to other stuff you might need while you're there. That's where I stayed with Trekchick but it was in a condo.

That's where I'd look as well. Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne. We've had good luck with vrbo.com.

Snoseek has a good idea, although a little further away. If you want close close, frisco is a bit more reasonably priced.

Abasin and Loveland are ski mountains but not resorts, Keystone is more resort village ish and has the condo thing going on.

thanks for all the tips, wife doesn't ski so trying to find something nice if she's hanging out while we hit mountain.

what's the deal with roads? is an SUV needed or do they do good job on i70 + RT 6 so we don't have too much to worry about?

best Western Ptarmigan lodge in Dillon

it's a nice looking property on the resevoir with views and not expensive

Dillon is great because it's in between most resorts but beyond the tunnel

I stayed in Georgetown last April, Motel 6 there was just ok, would prefer to have stayed in Dillon,

tripadvisor.com also lists a Comfort Suites in dillon same price range

Roads were fantastic in April even right after snow
