I thought this was odd from Loveland:Our snowmaking crew just arrived from New Zealand and their ready to make snow for the 2015-2016 season.
They dont have local people to make snow?

Why don't you go call up every major resort in the east and let them know Crotched has the "most powerful" snowmaking system in the east and see what they say. Dummy.

I was speaking about his analysis of Loveland, that's the thread topic.

In regards to Crotched, I bet based on acreage they are up there if not the most powerful. Hunter is another that comes to mind. It's all subjective. But there are plenty of other places to discuss this I am willing to bet.

I believe Copper has a contract with the U.S. Ski Team for early season training. Copper is not scheduled to open to the pubic until Nov. 6 (according to your link).

Yup, they have a contract (or at least an agreement) with the US Ski Team for an early season training venue, including speed event training and also with HKD snowmakers to supply the equipment

I think chair 3 was installed circa 1995, so it's not that old. I don't remember management saying it was gonna be replaced anytime soon. Looking forward, loveland is trying to get approval for their chair 10 installation. Most ski areas are developed right up to the edge of their SUP, loveland is the exception. Chair 10 is within the SUP and when (if?) approved, Loveland will reclaim the highest chairlift in North America.

Yeah, got my lifts mixed up. I meant to say Lift No. 2. The long, slow, triple from the base to the Ptarmigan Lodge. I saw on their master plan that they plan on replacing that with two lifts. I was curious if the new lift is part of that plan.

And yes I saw the proposal for that other chair. That would be cool.

Crotched Mountain pumps 6000 gpm over 100 acres. 60 gpm/acre of snowmaking is the highest in the east by far. Most ski areas average around 20 gpm/acre of snowmaking. Wachusett I think is #2 can do 45 gpm/acre.

Yes, Killington can pump 12000 gpm and Sunday River can pump at 9000 gpm. But neither can get that on their opening terrain of North Ridge or T2. That 12000 or 9000 gpm is over many miles and many acres of trails. This is why Crotched can get to 100% open so fast. Their actual limiting factor is their ponds at the base. I'm surprised they haven't built more/bigger ones.

So yes, for it's size, Crotched has the most powerful snowmaking system. When you get to mid- thousands of gallons per minute, you can't pump that all on one trail anymore. But Loveland can as their overall capacity is less.
