Resort or Ski Area: Mad River Glen
Conditions: Drizzling in AM, sunny in the PM; Powder/Packed Powder; 21F-41F; 8mph winds
Trip Report: Thanks to AZ, I was able to make a second trip this season to Mad River Glen and renew my love affair with this particular mountain. The forecast called for rain so that kept the crowds manageable. It was foggy up top but, as the day wore on, it turned nicely sunny. There was still powder to be had in the trees and the coverage was superb. If you are looking to ski in the trees this season, head to MRG now. It's prime time tree-skiing now! I can't believe the amount of natural in there.
I hit some on and off-map trails and was happy that I had progressed enough to ski those trails that had been mocking me all these years. Started first by hitting the 20th Hole (courtesy of directions given to me on an earlier trip) then Lynx and Lift Line. I then switched over to the Double and hit Gazelle then Partridge then Little Paradise/Woodbox (that's what they called it). Returned to the Single to do Paradise (Note to Nick: Sorry, I led you down Fall Line instead of Paradise last time around. Oops.) then finished on Chute because there's no tree skiing after three. At least, that's what I think I hit because, as any MRG skier knows, just because you start on a named trail, doesn't mean you end up on it. For the most part, I just kept ducking into the woods wherever the snow looked good.
My only complaint is that they took off the No Diving sign in the men's room in the Basebox. Other than that, everything is as it always was.
Ski it if you can!
