Tardy report but I have to write it! Another classic Day in my best December ever! First Day of Winter, opening day at Magic, up to three feet of snow, maybe 100 people on the hill.
Arrived at 7:30am with my buddy Mario. Three employees and two skiers were there before us. Overcast and cool weather conditions. Hit the lift line at 8:00, only (6) people in front of us. Only one lift for 37 trails - love it!
Snow was like cement. There was no "powder" flying. Very tough conditions. Made Mad River Glen seem easy. It was just very unforgiving. If you made a mistake you bit it! But the challenge was great. Only trail I saw closed was Master Magician. Only a few locals poached it. Did Twilight Zone, Goniffs, Witch to Black Line, Sorcerer, Talisman, Slide of Hans, Heart of Magician, Red Line (from witch down), Green line, the Hallows, etc....
Most of the blues and greens were groomed to perfection so anyone could have had a blast here today.
The "powder" kept beating us up but we just went back at it harder. Probably yard-saled it 6-8 times. I was beat up after this one!
Couldn't believe there wasn't anyone there to help "break" up the snow. I'm telling you. If you got the $56.00 and want no crowds and great skiing, almost as close to back country as you can get, then hit Magic up this week. Before the rain yesterday, there was plenty of coverage everywhere, but you had to use caution on the double blacks because there were sink holes and boulders here and there.
Anyway here's a few picks! I also made up an album if you want to check it out. Great day. My fifth different Mountain and it's not Christmas yet!
Thanks Magic! I love it there! Keep up the good work! People let's support them! It truly is the Mad River Glen of Southern Vermont!

P.S. Ran into Madskier6 when going in for lunch. He was there with the family. Hope he has some comments to interject here. Never caught up with him in the afternoon. We didn't come off the hill til' 4:30, was getting pretty dark! What a day! What a season so far!
Happy Holidays everyone!

Sweet shots reefer, can't wait to check out your album! Now that's what I'm talking about...atmosphere, atmosphere, and so few people must have been a nice treat. I am always intrigued when I go by this place, and read a nice write up in ski last year, definitely on my list.

Happy Holidays!!:snow:

Great report. I am  that so few people showed. Why was that? And why did they open so late, considering all the snow as of late?

I'm befuddled why more people didn't show up? They opened so late because they had power/lift issues.
