Man, are they going to be 100% open on opening day? Even for small area like Sundown, that's way impressive.

Snowmaking vid

Man, are they going to be 100% open on opening day? Even for small area like Sundown, that's way impressive.

Nope. They are concentrating on the standard opening terrain (Little Joe, Canyon Run, Nor'easter, Temptor, Stinger and Exhibition). Gunbarrel requires almost all their capacity. They will shut off 100 guns tomorrow after a full week of round the clock snowmaking. Chris Sullivan expects it to groom out at 4-6' of base. The next round of snowmaking will include Tom's Treat and the rest of Sunnyside. Whatever capacity is left will be used to fill in the water bars on Gunny. Gunbarrel, like usual, will be last.

I brought up my daughters to check out the snow today and saw Brian there. Chris gave us all a snowmaking tour including the pump house which was pretty cool. Luckily my kids were pretty well-behaved. Chris is psyched about their progress which is indeed very impressive. I also saw Dotty Craig (marketing) and said hello to her. Anyway, here's a video from today:

I had read some where, I think from you that an expansion was in the Master Plans. How ambitious are the plans you've heard thrown around. I'm assuming they would need to build an additional snow making pond to attempt this.

Brian and I got a look at a detailed plan today. Let's just say it's going to be awesome when it happens (think narrow, winding). There is terrain included that is steeper than anything else on the mountain right now. The expansion as planned is significant and will require a lot of additional infrastructure.

Where is the narrated tour for us people that missed it cause we were out skiing today?;-)

You know on the way home, I had wish I had done a more interview style video. Chris was throwing out a lot of stats and numbers that many of you would have found interesting. One thing is for sure; the guy knows his stuff and is extremely passionate. Maybe I'll still try to do something like that if he's up for it.

BTW, the goal is to seed Temptor for Friday, but that depends on whether they have enough time to get all those whales pushed around. That's not going to be a small undertaking.

They have a LOT of work ahead of them pushing those whales alone. From what Chris was saying some of them are as tall or taller than the tower mounted HKD guns! They actually had to turn off the guns on Canyon because the snow came right up to the guns and had no where else to go. They repositioned those guns and are going to fire them back up once they get a bit more base on Exhibition and the Canyon flats. There's a TON of snow to move around! I'm so psyched to see the finished product. From what Chris said, and I could see, the snow is like mid-winter man-made, light and chalky. :snow:

Good to see ya again Chris and thanks for the tour, even if it was meant for Greg's kids.. ;)

BTW - Nice work on the video Greg. I'm sure Chris will appreciate the shot of his backside for the credits.. ;)

Seriously, nicely put together. It really showed the level of snowmaking activity going on there. At least, what was apparent from the base.

any feel for how definite or impending this actually is or is it more of a "wish list" kinda thing.

Not sure how much I can say, not that I know all that much, but it seems to me this is closer to impending than it is to wish list. Still some items to overcome obviously. Maybe Chris will elaborate if he can.

I don't want to speak for Chris, but I would say there's a pretty good chance of having seeded goodness on opening day. They definitely have enough snow for it. The snow pile on the upper flat part of Temptor is taller than that cliff to skiers left...

Hopefully he'll chime in with more definitive news once they get a better feel for things.

Thanks for rubbing it in.... :smash:

All you need to know is that Sundown has an incredible amount of snowmaking power for their size and it shows. If you doubt it then go check it out for yourself on Friday, the earliest Sundown opening, ever! :snow:

Pound for pound, Sundown can compete with just about anybody. 100 guns firing at once for a mountain that size is insane. Still hoping to pull off an opening night visit.

Are you 2 psychically linked? Geez! I couldn't stop laughing when Brian told me you showed up when he was there today, Greg!

Very nice vid! Amazing snowmaking capabilities for our little bump there. Can't believe we'll be skiing that in 4.5 days!

Well, on Friday we were both talking about heading over to check out the snowmaking this weekend so I wasn't totally surprised to see Brian's car there. My kids loved seeing all that snow. At one point, my little one yelled out, "this is so cooooool." :) Successful brainwashing at its finest! ;)

The guns are still blazing away this morning, but I fear this will be the end for awhile as temps are expected to break into the low 40's today....Guess that'll give them time to start moving those big piles around

My daughter has been asking for the last week when she's going to go skiing. :D They're so cute when they're brainwashed early!
