So the chairlift fight had morphed into a bashing of Floridians. LOL

Having lived in Florida for 2 years, I like the state…as a vacation destination! Wouldn’t choose to live there again.

Sure, it’s cheap. But there’s a reason for it being so cheap - no one wants to actually “live” there if they have a choice. Those who move there after retirement are “on god’s waiting room”. They’re not living a life any more. They‘re waiting… I can understand they want the wait to be cheap! ;)

I was the minority who actually work there. If you’ve never felt what it’s like to not belong, try holding a job in retirement state. Enough said. I actually love my job and my co-workers. But felt like living in a bubble. The moment I walk off campus, the difference was glaring.

I had never heard of The Villages, FL before this thread. Had to look it up. It's interior Florida, 20 or 30 miles north of Orlando. Interior Florida would be of very little interest to me. Not close enough to the beaches and super hot/muggy in summer. Disney World would hold no attraction for me.
I guess my dream for upcoming age 70-80 decade would be poaching my daughter's house near Panama City from Sep to Jan and poaching my son's house in SLC from Feb to May. Visit other two kids in Wash DC (June) and San Diego (July, Aug) .🤡
Of course life has many curveballs and who knows if we'll be pushing up daisies next week? Just ask Jeff Beck.

I live in north west NJ. I call it the "not NJ part of NJ." Politicaly conservative, semi rural, under an hour away from skiing in PA, 2 hours to northern Catskills. Could not pay me to live in FL. CA, sure if you mean Mammoth Mountain.
I live 10 minutes from Mountain Creek. I really like it here in NW NJ.

I doubt many people here have spent more time in Florida than I have, and I think it's pretty dumb to say you hate the people there, because you're basically saying you hate America (granted a few here probably do hate America) because people come to the state from all over the nation more so than any other state of the 50. You meet people from literally everywhere, ESPECIALLY the northeast! To paraphrase Yogi, "Nobody likes it, it's too crowded".... The reality is, the people are much the same as everywhere else.

public schools should'nt teach us history, world history, civics, literature, art, and music? you are that afraid of your child being educated into being a liberal? the one things public grade/high school doesn't seem to teach at all anywhere that they should, is personal finances.
Teach actual history, civics, and sure art and literature. But the (debunked) 1619 BS or the re-hashed 70's Derek Bell CRT? No, thats teaching false premises. So as for being afraid? Complete ( and verified) fear KK.
Complete agreement on teaching personal finance disciple. Or just responsibility and accountability in all areas of life will suffice.

Mammoth from LA Times piece yesterday - boatloads of snow - more inconsistent than the NE though. . . .

Enough time's elapsed. They know his age, they have the charges, they know the town & state he's from, obviously they know exactly who the guy is, why aren't they releasing the name? I want to see this guy. LOL

There's definitely a cultural difference between the States losing population and gaining population:
This was pretty funny, there is a whole series of these :

I've seen a couple of the episodes in that series. They're pretty hilarious. I loved the cookout one.

But it’s a self-selected groups of “people”, from wherever

I know of two couples who retired, moved to Florida and then moved back home (California, New Jersey respective). They were not ready to do nothing except “waiting to meet God” yet.

On the flip side, there are plenty of folks, who moved to FL, and not just at retirement age, who really enjoy the various levels of the "FL lifestyle" (and that certainly encompasses everything from true redneck to ultra cosmopolitan high society) and never left.
Everyone has their own preferences, just like some of us skiers/riders like ripping corduroy whereas others are all about gnarly "no fall" super tech terrain.

If one is happy where they are in their lives, why should anyone mock them? Unless of course they are jealous of how they actually are miserable in their own lives and don't want to address their own situation because it seems "tough" verses it feeling easier to mock someone else whom they view as inferior?

Mock them? No.

But I wouldn’t want to live amongst them! That’s after experiencing living amongst them for 2 years.

Mind you, I also know a few couples who settled there post retirement. The difference is clear to me what kind of people who prefer to live in Florida.

(Obviously, there’re pockets of exceptions too)

its not even a contest. florida.

i live in new jersey now. jersey city, which i kind of consider to be the sixth borough of NYC, but an ugly yellow license plate nonetheless. as a born and raised new yorker, i had disliking new jersey baked into me. but its really a bunch of nonsense. the jersey suburbs to the north and west of the city are actually quite nice. jersey has great access to nature within the state and a short drive away into NY and PA. jersey has easy access to two world class cities in NYC and Philly. jersey has hundreds of miles of great beaches, complete with a degenerate casino town.

california is expensive but wonderful. its physical beauty and variety of climate/terrain types is second to none in the united states. the skiing, beaches, and cities are all world class. california fucking rules.

florida is a piece of shit swamp full of shitty people. they have horrible politics. they have no seasons. they have no winter sports. their largest city miami is not culturally on par with other cities of its size and stature. the only thing florida has going for it is good tax policy, and golf if that's your thing.
They have the Everglades which is breathtaking - but otherwise, I'm kinda with you

We go to the Crawfish Festival in Sussex County, NJ every June and love the area. Lakes, many miles of rail trails and single track trails for riding our bikes. Super friendly folks at the festival with some great NOLA bands and very low key. A bit conservative politically which bothers my wife but I don't really care.
