Films and new website aside, they also have kick-ass customer service. ;-) I sent an e-mail to bigmeat about the music in the Snow Gods trailer and received a response in 23 minutes. Let's see someone from the Warren Miller camp respond that quick.

Yeah they do indeed rock. It's nice to see footage of skiing in your own backyard (The East) and not having to drool over glossy WM productions as your only option. MSP, TGR, Poor Boyz all make pretty slick looking films too but I tend to get a bit more pumped for the season when I see footage of my home mountains.

I just went to the latest film. I did not think it was as well done (plot wise) or as entertaining as Born From Ice. I agree with the consensus that there was just too much rail/park. They didn't have any sort of storyline, like BFI did and it ended too abruptly in my mind. I did like the Jay, Killington, and Sunday River footage....kudos for going to NJ and CT. Maybe the video was the result of the crummy conditions...I dunno. But I felt like it was less filling.

Yeah...I thought it did end a tad abruptly. After the whole superpark part it just went to the credits with no further commentary.
The woods skiing that they did put in there was pretty good though. There was some pretty hard charging at Jay.

I will say also that they are taking a WM turn in that I see the boys mentioned more and more in SKI and SKIING. Last month's SKIING had a feature just for Joe Moribito and his recommendations for Quebec City. Honestly, who cares? I want to see skiing and talk skiing...not about drinking and shopping. I like their stuff and cult like following...just don't want it to become yet another "sell out." The $$$ is great and a necessary evil, but don't go too far....

Yeah, I hear you. What originally sparked my interest with them was that they were NOT Warren Miller-esque. I can see where having more sponsorship helps you improve your production quality and enables you to do more as an organization but I'll agree that keeping to your roots and representing the East Coast ski culture should be the primary objective.

I think that EMS, Stowe, etc. as sponsors is cool.

What I don't like is seeing Joe's face splashed left and right in SKIING and not talking about the movies, but rather other BS.

Keep it real guys...

Purchasing Ski Porn

How can I get my hands on the Meathead films? I'm guessing Snow Gods isn't available on DVD yet. But where can I get a copy of Born From Ice or Epoch? The links from their website take me to EMS. EMS's site says they are not in stock.

Amazon has a box set from Matchstick. Is it worth the dough? I haven't heard much about Matchstick.

PS - It was the best of Matchstick box set...

Bummer, I've been meaning to pick up a copy of BFI, I didn't realize it wasn't available anymore... :(

Success! I found BFI on Amazon. I can't help you with Epoch, that seems to be unavailable. Their website has been claiming that more are being made for a while now...

I'm going to e-mail the guys at Meathead Films to see if the DVD is available anywhere else. I'll keep you posted.

BFI and Epoch are available at EMS. That's where I got mine. Both are great movies. You do have to go to the store directly to get them though. Concord NH store has a good variety in my experience.

Another option is the Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington...I think that they are at www.gearex.com or something...hold the phone... THIS is their site and not that one. That one sells "protective equipment" for guys if you know what I mean

Grassi - there's an EMS in the Danbury Mall (right by you) and one in the Meriden Mall. You can try calling one of those.

Since I just pulled the trigger on BFI, I'll give EMS a call for Epoch. I was just ready the description of Epoch and it sounds very interesting.

BTW - You are all ski porn enablers... thanks.

The EMS in Simsbury definitely hasn't had either in stock for quite some time, not sure about others though...

No, IIRC it has a bit of everything. It's worth it just for the corny opening credits.

So pay attention eager minds because "Schooled" brings you burly backcountry lines, waist deep powder, sick spring jibbing, and first descents the likes of which you've never seen before!

Prepare to travel the East with the Meatheads as they ski places like Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Jay Peak, Stratton, Sunday River, St. Sauveur and the Chic Choc mountains of Quebec.

If you can't find it maybe I'll let you borrow my copy. I'll have to watch it again first though, I recently got it back after lending it out for longer than expected and have been jonsing to watch it again... ;)
