I hadn't had time to get to a mountain for a while so I threw on my Alpina Lite-Terrains and took a jaunt out back through the woods yesterday. There was enough of a crust to make any real turns impossible for me so I stayed on the mellow terrain. I descended into a creekbed and followed it for about an hour, no tracks other than my own! At the end of my jaunt I broke through a snowbridge crossing the creek and had to spend 15 minutes de-icing my skis. It wound up being a good thing though because while I was stopped a beautiful owl came and perched nearby!

Great shots! Almost looked like Mr Owl perched on an old rope tow set up.

My wife and I are going to venture out in the woods in a bit. We had a great day at the mountain yesterday, so we figured we'd stay local today.

Good point on the crust...that may make things a bit easier on the snowshoes.

I've got the battery in the camera charging right now.

The backcountry of northern NewEngland, even at the non-alpinezone, is beautiful......nice pics.
As a diehard openboater, seeing open water in streams....at this time of year, starts tugging at me, just like the anticipation of ski season after the first frost = tough times of the mind. Even with great snow conditions....LOL.

Nice Euler...Aren't the Lite Terrain's fun??!!

I can't say how much I love these skis...I've always kind of liked bushwacking on my xc skis, and kind of liked bushwacking on my snowshoes. These skis put the best of those worlds together and let me slide down the hills while still being short, slow, and controllable enough to venture off into the puckerbrush.

I'm looking for new boots/bindings for next year. They came with Rottafella NNN BC bindings and I scored a REALLY old pair of Alpina boots that fit them for next to nothing on Ebay, but I feel like I could muscle out some better turns if I had a sturdier boot/binding. I'm not sure if I should look for a beefier pair of NNN BC boots or bite the bullet and go for a lite weight 3 pin/cable system. I have a set of Rottafella SuperTelemark 3 pin bindings already, but I don't know if the 3 pins w/o a cable would be much superior to the NNN BC. Anyone have thoughts (or better yet knowledge?)

Yep...it's the old rope tow at the school where I live and work. We're looking into reviving it for next year!

Let me know if that happens....I'll take a ride over for that. :spread:

Westchester County, NY and a Mountain near you!
I got the Voile 3 pins with the cable for mine. The cable comes off in a jiffy for climbing and bushwhacking/gliding and go back on easy for any substantial downhills. Very happy so far but I am still learning to drop the knee for some real tele turns.

I am also keeping my fingers crossed we get some more snow down in westchester to keep my early morning before work tours going....

My BC Rig

I'm very happy with the Rossignol BC125 Positrack it's mounted with a Rottefella Chili (cable) binding.
For more alpine descents I use a bigger boot, BD Push, and for touring the Garmont Excursion.
I have the Super Telemarks on my old Fischer Rebounds and was very happy, however this rig has a lot more power.
