With no snow in the east right now, my wife is digging through the boxes in the garage, trying to forget the fact that it is 55 F outside and drizzling. So, what does she find ??

My absolutely mint February 16, 1976 issue of SI with who on the cover ?? The Kaiser--Franz Klammer. I remember the run so well, with Russi in the lead and no one seemingly catching him. Russi had won in 1972. Klammer was so close to the hay bails on one turn he was virtually in the fences.

Wow, you ought to see the ads of the day, like the "Juicemobiles for young superstars" by Spotbuilt--and plugged by none other than the juice himself, not too many ad gigs for him these days.

She also found my Dad's hospital bill from Steamboat in 1972--total cost for the leg break, setting, casting, X-ray, and overnight stay= 153.85

So, as we wait out this "wet and warm" spell, sit back and look through all your old ski *&^%..................cus you know its hanging around your house too.

Klammer(in 76')...= my early-mid 90s on Beginner trails;-)

Jeez AHM,
Sure brings back memories of my beginner/intermediate form of the mid-90s, I can still remember my beginner's stance on SR's "Green" trails(Lollapalooza = my Kitzbuhl;-) ...being a scary resemblance to Klammer @Kitzbuhl? ;-);-)

To this day Klammer's balls out run is the most exciting ski run I have ever seen. I remember watching it with my buddy Rick McGuiness at his parents house. We were both 18 and drinking was legal for us back then. And we were drinking! The run got so intense and exciting that we both banged on his Mom's glass coffee table so hard we broke it.

Then imagine this.........................

Jim: the first year the Jeep King of the Mt Series came on line, SB was hosting a race. On the Sunday following the race, I was given the opportunity to guide the Kaiser and Peter Wirnsberger around the bush for about 5 hours on a tour. You can imagine the fun of getting to ski with these two greats. The tour moved quite fast as you can imagine, and many of the "VIPS" who were there for the opportunity struggled to keep up. They loved the skiing, even requesting a couple runs twice. I remember grabbing some air and looking on either side and both were right there grabbing the air as well ( 8 - 10').

When I sat back in the Tav at the end of the day, with my wife and a friend who joined, I simply couldn't believe we had had the opportunity to ski with Klammer who arguably put together the most well publicized ski run ever. It was a ski day to remember for ever................

Neat...hopefully you can show me some of the places you brought him later this season.

Adding to AHM....

What AHM leaves out is how hard I fell for Mr. W-- took me at least two seasons to get over it. We also had the joy of skiing with some very excellent Canadians (hint-- one was teased terribly about the size of his nose....). I also remember entering a breakfast line at the SB Inn, and joining Phil Mahre in serving ourselves a lot of bacon (hey, it gets cold out there, especially when you are trying to impress Olympic/World Cup skiiers). Latest email from a friend with a view of SB says no snow yet-- WANT TO SKI, NEED TO SKI, AHM NEEDS TO SKI-- THIS IS KILLING ME.!!!

Don't hit a tree.
I'm full of glee.
This is my plea,
We all need to see
Soon rain will flee,
And that is when we
Will be
Reminded by me

Don't eat that...

Yellow Snow.

Private, what's your status?

Situation critical sir.

short sleve weather in Moretown

Just got back from a trip to Presque Isle, Maine. The best part was seeing Mt. Katahdin peering through the clouds--and the strawberry waffles in town.It was warm up there also.My take on the balmy weather is when it snows I will go skiing. Maybe I should call up the one who skis with the warn out flag on his skipole and take the 106's out water skiing. StovePipe.

Hey 'Pipe"..

Happy to hear you landed safely in the Valley-- make sure that the man with the flags on his ski poles wears the flowered-gaiters as well (those should be illegal, or burned for Ullr). Fellow SB skiier Nez is so unnerved by the weather that I had the dubious honor of watching him flirt at a NYS DEC meeting last PM-- please let me know when it snows, and AHM and I will be there in 4.5 hours. Mrs. AHM.
