Bromely has a coupon for MLK day every year, it's on their website, less than 50 bucks. They've got both sides of the mountain open and that place is never really crowded, although who knows with current conditions.

It will be nice if they get The Face open for this wknd---would ski a bit bigger with a 3rd route down.

For those of you considering the whale, you should know that it's really only one way down, with a small alternate. Spout is open ( although it changes names several times on the way down!), as is Dorsal. Dorsal feeds right back into spout.

They have some fan guns set up on the face, but from what I understand they are not making snow until Saturday. I've been working up that way this week, and I can tell you that the lower part of the face has some man made, but the upper does not yet. I will post tomorrow if they make any snow. I don't want to discourage anyone from going, but I would hate to see anyone head up with unrealistic expectations...!

FWIW they are having an alpine replay challenge on Sat and a bonfire on Sunday. You can find details on Facebook.

I wish I could go up for at least a few hours this weekend to support the whale, but I'm still on the IR!

Would blowhole be easier to open? Narrower so probably requires less snow. I'm,sure they want the exposure to the highway that the face offers however

Blowhole doesn't have snowmaking... When I used to ski there in high school, blowhole was pretty much the last trail to open. It would be a good trail for snowmaking though, because it faces the highway!

I wondered if the fact that the Patriots are playing a big game this Sunday will have any effect on skier visits on Sunday--despite the holiday weekend. The fact that the weather has been crap, limited open terrain and the game I was thinking could possibly translate into fewer people. Especially those who don't see any snow on the ground anymore at their houses.
I normally don't ski holiday weekends, but I've been considering it for Sunday given all of the above . . . . .

I was thinking the same thing, Sunday or Monday…….Monday may be slower….more hung over people who won't get out too early if at all !

Right where I want to be
Some of us in NH do have the day off. Kids do as well as my wife and I. I say to some of my friends who do have to work "I didn't know you worked for a racist company."

I get that as well. My kids don't though. Wife and I use it as ski date day. Maybe I'll get her to add to a bra tree that day. Okay back to reality - that ain't happening. :)

Got it, didn't realize that. My thought on Blowhole vs The Face is that The Face is right under the chair, is the widest and most visible from the highway especially when on the Southbound side. Blowhole would sort of be a bit hidden by the Lodge so may not have the best view from the highway. I always like the view of Jawbone coming from the North----cool hidden trail that is steep!

The company I work for used to give us Patriot's Day off, comes from the time when the office was in Lexington MA. I actually liked getting it because there's a long gap between President's Day and Memorial Day. No disrespect for MLK day but the timing's a bit off...and I know it's during ski season but all holidays during ski season are usually nuts anyway.
