Monatge Mountain in Scranton PA has been in talks with Sno Mountain LLC of Philly for a year, and on july 10th they decided Sno Mountain will buy the mountain. They will close within the next month, to insure they are ready for the up coming winter. Specs....

name=Sno mountain
new lift=high speed lift covers all 1000 vertical feet
new trails= 3 new trails all 1.5 miles long to be cut down
snowmaking= 180 new snow making guns
grooming= 2 new groomers
lodges=Lodge gutted, and remolded plus many additions on it, also a brand new lodge to be built at the new snow tubing complex.
tubing= tubing will now be right off of the parking lot with its own lodge.
terrain park= halfpipe, more rails, gap ons, bigger jumps, winch cat, and professionals to come in and design.
water park= they are going to be making the facilities for year round.
tram= will make a tram, so people dont have to use the steps

They bought it for 5.1 million, and will keep the whole staff on, and add 150 employees for summer.

Damn, I wish I could find investors to back me on a deal like that. A little common sense and you could turn a ski area more profitable than a strip club.

Well... some strip clubs. I mean... so I hear. ah... Anyway, back to ski areas.

Hmmmm.....an Apres Ski Strip Club, now that's an idea.

Seriously, 80% skiers/riders are male. That would work big time, but I'm sure there would be alot of community and resort resistance. Image and all. They do have one at Whistler, but thats the Vegas of ski towns.

There's one at the base of 23A on the way to Hunter. I'm not sure how well it does. Looks a little sketchy though.

I bet JimmyG has a season pass there too.

I could have sworn that I've seen a yellow TNF jacket moving quickly from the lot to the door. What's the name of that place? Ace of spades or something?

Well they DO truck Hunter's sushi up from the City every day. ;)

...um maybe that's not a good example.

...btw, I love how we have to start our comments about this place with the fact that we've never patronized this establishment.

No, but you really should make sure the police don't see you hanging out there with binoculars.

Besides, I wear my red TNF jacket apres-ski.

Its about time the political BS of Lakawanna County has been removed from montage. Montage has some really great terrain that was being overshadowed by the constant bickering of the politicians who ran it.

I still remember when the owners of ski windham came up and wanted to buy. They rode the lift with me and interviewed me as an employee. If I remember correctly, they offered 9mil and the county refused, to bad considering it sold for much less.

Hopefully, these new owners will be able to bring montage to its rightful recognition in pa skiing. That means making the public aware that it is a zillion times better then Elk and Camelback combined.

Well Snow TIme pissed me off. Sno Mountain put an offer out on June 24th, then a public hearing about them and there plans( very extensive, and a lot of work done), then on july 3rd Snow Time put an offer in. They were just trying to get in the way, and thats what pissed me, and a bunch of other locals off.

Montage is a mountain that has the potential to become a major player in the Pocono Mountain area if they have a top to bottom HSQ lift. The lower mountain has some fairly steep trails that would benefit from increased snowmaking. I would be interested to ski there again in the future after the improvements are completed.

in the 07/08 season there will be top to bottom high speed lift, and 3 new mile and a half trails.
