I'm going to answer the same here as I did for the most scared I've ever been while skiing.

There is nothing more difficult than negotiating the terrain at K-mart on a Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Slopes completely skied off and people flying everywhere.

I find that infinately more chanllenging and difficult to manage than anything MRG, Stowe, Sugarloaf, Sugarbush, Jay or Smuggs has thrown at me - all of which can make a strong arguement as having the most challenging terrain in the east. (as can Whiteface from what I've heard)

 Freakin hilarious!
This may come to no surprise to some(HPD  ) but i'm going to say Jay Peak. Not just for terrain but for the combination of challenge for getting there, the challenge of getting weather to cooperate, and general challenge of it's on and off piste terrain. Not to mention the challenge of finding a place to eat and chill with a couple brews  !

I'm going to say it would have to be MRG or Stowe. If you're willing to hike or bushwack to chutes then Stowe has some crazy shit.

For Ski Areas, I'm going to say either MRG or Magic.

For mountains, it has to be Washington.

I'll go with Jay. I've been on some stuff at Jay that had me sweating in -10 with 30 mph winds. Plus, I have a bunch of ski photos in my office at work and the shots from Jay ALWAYS get the best responces.

Otherwise, Saturday @ 2pm at K. is the hairiest skiing anyone can do in the east. If you call that skiing.

Have you by any chance been to Mountain Creek? Skiing that place on a saturday afternoon gives new meaning to "slopes completely skied off"

MRG for stuff within the boundaries or on the trail map. For stuff you need to hike to or find on your own, it's Stowe hands down. The Kitchen Wall, Hellbrook, Tusk and certain other shots are as difficult as anything you'll find anywhere, and they require just a lift-assisted hike. There's really no comparison in the East until you start talking about true BC skiing like Tucks.

Bahhhh-ha-ha....I live right up the road from Mtn Bleak....And i have a life time pass to "Da-Creek'
the only time I was there last season was for three races...And I feel your pain.....thats why I ski at Hidden valley....But i must admit doing laps down "Pipe line" can both be fun and amuseing at the same time....

Skiing down Ralph's Run on a Saturday Night at Wachusett is the hardest. Some 5 year old in your way on one turn, his drunk dad on the next. Not to mention you're doing it on the way home from a Saturday at K where Snowshed, Great Eastern, Rams Head, and Cruise Control are always fun.

To be serious, Cannon has some tough stuff, especially on windy days (or for Cannon, 95% of operating days). Middle Cannon By-Pass is almost always a hockey rink. Then you have the Tramline. Yum.

Whiteface (the top)

Stowe

Still haven't skied MRG
Whiteface (the top)- True dat, but Cloudspliter Glades, 10th Mt. Division Glades, High Country Glades, Essex, MacKenzie, Wilderness, Mt. Run and Empire which was named one of the top 5 classic runs in the east by Skiing magazine are all on Little Whiteface.

Gore (new Trails)- High Pines Glades, Double Barrel and my personal favorite Dark Side Glades are all good stuff.

As I finally answer the question - This is a tough call, but when The Slides are open I give it to Whiteface (big supprise  ). Even when they are closed Whiteface is still in the conversation with Smuggs and Stowe. I have not been to Jay, but by all accounts they should be in. When I was at MRG the conditions happened to be bad, so I can't put them in based on my experience, but I'm sure they belong too.

Areas south of Rutland I think Hunter deserves an honorable mention.

cannon does have some tough stuff, but even as a diehard cannon skier, i still wouldn't nominiate inbounds at cannon for the most challenging overall area. add in a few things off the map, then maybe. tramline and kinsman do get the blood pumping though!
